[Liam gets rejected when he asks Hayden to prom and ends up going with Theo.]
Liam was standing in front of Hayden's house. He was preparing to ask her something and he was full of fear of getting rejected. He finally worked up his courage, steeled himself, and knocked on the door three times. He looked down but looked right back up when he heard the door open and see feet replace the spot where the door had been moments before.
He knew he shouldn't have been nervous. She was his girlfriend. She wouldn't say no. He was still nervous nonetheless, and she, being a werewolf just like him, could smell it. He reeked of it.
Liam took a deep breath before asking, "I was wondering if you wanted to go to prom with me?"
Hayden looked guilty. She smelled of it as well. "Look, Liam. I was going to tell you today but I didn't know how: I . . . I think we should break up."
Liam just stared. He had been standing there for the past five minutes trying to just work up the courage to ask out his girlfriend to a stupid school dance and she rejects him with asking him for a break up.
"W-Why?" He was dumbfounded. Completely. He had no clue why she thought they should break up. He hadn't done or said anything wrong, right?
"I feel like you don't love me anymore."
"Of course I love you. Why would you think that?"
She paused before saying, "Theo. You . . . You look at him as if that's the only thing in the world that matters. You never looked at me that way. Maybe at the beginning of our relationship but not anymore."
Liam stood there, frozen in place, mouth open. "You think . . . I like . . . Theo?"
"I don't think, I know. I can smell it. Your chemosignals go crazy with all the positive emotions around him. And even if I couldn't smell them, I still would know. Mason knows." She tried explaining.
"Mason hates Theo. Why would he even acknowledge the fact that his best friend is in love with someone he hates?"
"There's this thing called a gaydar. That's how gays find their other gays. He probably picked it up from that." Hayden sighed. "Look, I still want to be friends. More than anything. But I think we should just stay friends from now on. Besides, I kind of ship it." She smiled jokingly. It lifted my spirits a little. At least she wanted to stay friends.
"Okay. Not about the ship. That–That's just weird." Liam was smiling despite declining the idea of him and Theo ever being together.
"Tomorrow he's gonna ask you out and you are going to jump with joy." She was laughing while Liam was glaring at her, but failing to stay mad and cracking a small smile.
They were still standing in the doorway, Hayden inside and Liam still on the porch. "See you tomorrow?" Hayden offered.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow." And he left. Hayden closed the door gently behind him.
Liam walked back to his car, thinking about everything that just happened. Hayden broke up with him because she thinks he likes Theo but asked if they could stay friends. She thinks he likes Theo. So does Mason. Did Theo like him? He thought about the whole way drive back to his house. Theo's truck was parked in front of his house. He wasn't surprised or anything because Liam had offered to let Theo live with him and his parents after finding out he lived in his truck.
His parents still weren't home of course. Both had the night shift at the hospital. Walking in, he found Theo on the couch with his arm draped over the arm rest, one leg on the couch and the other resting out on the coffee table in front of him. His eyes were closed and the tv was on. Liam smiled at the sight. Theo had a tendency to not be comfortable in any position besides the extremely awkward ones that would tend to make most people's necks or backs hurt.
When Liam closed the door, he tried doing it quietly so he wouldn't wake the sleeping chimera but obviously failed as he woke up hearing the lock click. He opened his eyes slowly before rubbing them and sitting up from his spread eagle state.
"So how'd it go?" Theo asked. He didn't give Liam time before continuing. "She said 'yes' obviously because we love each other so very much and then we kissed." Theo laughed. Liam just stared at the teen. Most of the pack couldn't see it, but Theo was a dork. An adorable dork. Woah, okay! Maybe Hayden was right and I sort of liked Theo. Lots of people call their friends cute and adorable, right? "So how close was I?"
"Very, very, very close," Liam paused, letting Theo have a short-lived success. "From being the farthest away you could possibly get." Theo frowned.
"She didn't say 'yes'?"
"Nope. In fact, she even broke up with me, but we decided to stay friends."
"So does that mean we get to go together?"
"I never said I was going to go with you."
"Who else would you go with? Mason and Corey are going together. What other friends besides me do you have?" Liam was about to answer Nolan but Theo stopped him before he could get very far with the answer. "Nolan's going with Gabe." (Gabe lived by the way. I only ship Nolan with Gabe. No one else. Nada. I don't appreciate you if you do. I don't hate you, I just don't want to be your best friend either.)
"I can go by myself."
"Come on, Liam. Please. I don't want to go to another highschool party-related thing alone. I don't think you've ever gone to a dance or party by yourself but it's never fun." Theo argued.
Liam sighed thinking about how bored he'd be if he went by himself. But if he went with Theo people would definitely get the wrong impression. "Fine." He decided anyways.
The week between when Liam said yes to going to prom with Theo to the actual dance, they didn't talk about prom at all. They just decided to act like they usually did, two bros who just so happened to be going to prom together. They didn't coordinate anything which was completely fine for the both of them (they both just ended up wearing plain suits but neither really cared).
They danced together, many asked who asked who to the dance. They told them that if neither got a date that they would just go together, which was completely true. Others asked if they were dating, which Liam shot down immediately every time but Theo had some fun with it.
In the end, they ended up accidentally kissing after someone bumped into Liam, resulting Liam to run into Theo, but also happened to hit the corner of his lips. Liam apologized a lot but Theo brushed it off before kissing Liam right back with a gentle peck.
"There. Now we're even." Theo said with a smile, more like a smirk.
Liam shoved him but pulled him right back for a kiss. This one real. They didn't care that a lot of people were starting to look at them. Most just awed by the fact that Theo Raeken had finally really kissed another person, but then if you looked very closely, but you didn't need glasses if you were blind, to see Mason doing a happy dance next to Corey and continually singing, "Pay up! Pay up! Pay up!" Corey handed him a twenty with an amused smile. They pulled apart and acted like nothing had just happened. The only thing that showed they had just shared a happy moment was the smiles plastered on their faces.
