I clip the final rose to complete the bouquet. The Viscount of Druitt often has me do odd jobs for him around his fancy estate. He's tried to grope me a few times. But I shut him off and feign ignorance to the situation every time. This guy is a creep at times; but at others, he's the kindest any man has ever been to me.
"My darling robin," he calls from behind me. He plucks a rose from the bundle I had collected just a few moments ago. "A perfect flower for my perfect little birdie?"
"I'm the one who picked that flower, you know," I tell him with a soft smile. The Viscount frowns a little and places the flower back where he found it. "How is your brother doing?"
"He can nearly stand on his own now. Soon he will be wandering your halls, hoping to work for you as well. Thank you so much for taking us in. You are the kindest, Viscount Druitt."
"What am I to do when such a pure and beautiful robin flutters through my window and sings such sweet words of love!?" He takes my free hand and lathers it in his wet kisses. "How could I have lived for so long without your light here to guide me? Such beauty deserves to be praised. Such kindness, exalted above all others. Tell me, robin, would you like that?"
"To be exalted?" I ask him quietly.
"To become my wife~"
I sweatdrop a bit and back away from the flamboyant viscount. "I don't believe that would be the best thing to happen between us," I tell him softly.
"What do you mean?" he asks me. His eyes become dark and his bows his head in doom. "If such an angel cannot love me, I should just kill myself to spare the world from such a gruesome monstrosity." Oh God, he called me an angel again...
"What are you talking about?" I ask him with a gentle smile. The Viscount just looks at me with a fake pout and tilts his head back. "We can't get married because you are the Viscount of Druitt and I am nothing but a peasant."
"You are not a peasant! You are my most precious robin! I have healed your broken wings, yet you do not fly away from me! Why do you remain if you will not marry me?"
"You're helping more than just myself," I tell him. "You're helping my family."
"Oh yeah..." He plucks a rose for himself and holds it up to his nose. "How is the dumb one doing? Is he still tying knots throughout my estate?"
Bad move on my part: I had taught Pluto how to tie a basic knot earlier in the weak; now he will do nothing but tie knots...everywhere. "I'm trying to get him to stop. I don't want us to be any more of a burden to you than we already are."
"No, no, robin. Your beauty and grace is worth more to me than any material wealth. Stay with me as long as you wish and let me hold you near." He thrusts the white rose in my face and smiles. "I have picked this most precious flower for you, my most immaculate robin."
"I should go check on my brothers now," I tell him. I still take the rose and place it in my hair so as not to upset him. What will this man do once he realizes that I am not a woman? I can hear him walking daintily after me as I make my to my father's room. I'm not sure if it's because he doesn't trust me, or if this Viscount of Druitt is actually obsessed with me.
"Such divinity wrapped up in such a beautiful package...how is this robin the same kind I am?" he mumbles to himself.
I roll my eyes and knock on Ash's door. My father answers with the typical grunt and I walk in. "I've brought a guest, Ash," I tell him with a sigh. My father sits up slightly when he sees Viscount Druitt enter the room behind me. "How are you feeling today?"
