A week flew by and Luke and I were going on “dates” almost every day. I was with the rest of the boys everyday too so they finally got over their staring thing with me which made everything a lot more comfortable. I almost forgot that we were contracted to do this. When we weren’t on public dates, Luke and I were still together regardless. I finished recording my new single. It felt amazing to be back in the studio and Luke and the boys were with me every step of the way. My life felt perfect at this moment. My new song was long overdue so of course I wanted it out as soon as possible, I planned on releasing it this week. Next month was the mtv video music awards and the boys were set to perform there. Kate prepared Luke and I to arrive together so she made sure everything was color coordinated and we’d be the talk of the music industry for a long time, but I didn’t care. I was just happy to be there supporting these four guys who I can call some of my closest friends.
5sos had a concert tonight and I was very keen on seeing them live. I stayed for sound check and it was ridiculous, they played songs from eminem, to nickel back, to even a little Katy perry and had me laughing the entire time. They had me up on stage as a joke and I imitated Luke jumping around. He lifted me up and carried me off stage laughing. The show was about to start when I felt a tap on my shoulder.
“Josie?” I heard my name being said and instantly turned around. A blonde woman a few inches shorter than me smiled and hugged me tightly
“I’m Luke’s mum, Liz, I’m sorry he’s spoken about you so much,” she said laughing
“Oh my god Liz! It’s so nice to meet you, Luke talks about you almost every day, are you here to surprise him?” I smiled
“Yeah I flew in this afternoon,”
“He’s gonna love this I can’t wait to see his face once he sees you,”
“Oh darling, you’re such a sweetheart. You make Luke so happy,” Liz said hugging me again
“He makes me happy too,” I said genuinely. We both stood on the side stage watching the boys perform. When they finished their concert, they all came out sweaty and exhausted but the happiness on Luke’s face clearly shown once he saw his mum. He hugged her so tightly and I couldn’t help but smile
“Mum id like you to meet Josie,” Luke said putting a hand on the small of my back
“I met her earlier Luke I love her already,” Liz smiled as she was greeted by other crew members who took her attention away from us
“Do you feel as bad as I do for lying to her?” I whispered to him
“You have no idea,” he sighed looking down
“It’ll be fine we just can’t let it get to our heads yeah?” I said holding his hand with mine and his bicep in my other. I casually kissed his shoulder that was bare from the sleeveless shirt he was wearing and he gave me a small smile in agreement. We both walked to their dressing room together so he could get cleaned up and ready to go
“So what did you say about me to her?” I teased
“She told you about that?” He blushed
“Mhmm now tell me what you told her,”
“Well I told her about how I inspired you to write that new song of yours, and about how you tripped over the air that one time we were walking, I’m pretty sure she already knows how clumsy you are by now,” he laughed. I gave him a soft punch in the arm before we entered the dressing room
Today was the day my new single was coming out. I was excited to say the least. I couldn’t wait for people to finally hear what’s been cooped up in my mind during my inspiration block for so long. I got amazing feedback from my fans. 5sos also promoted out to their fans and they seemed to love it. Everyone started asking me if the song was about Luke but I never confirmed anything because I loved the whole mystery and i didn’t want to give luke the satisfaction. A few days later, my song was playing all over the radio and my name was back to being plastered everywhere. I had an interview with Conan today and I asked Luke to come. He sat in the audience to watch me and I felt less nervous knowing that he was there.
“Alright ladies and gentlemen please welcome Josie Castano!” Conan yelled through the microphone. I walked in with the most grace that I could muster in the moment as all eyes were on me. I’m pretty sure luke was betting that id trip because he knew how clumsy I was.
“Alright Josie, I gotta be honest with you, I’ve listened to this song almost a hundred times and it doesn’t seem to get old tell me your secret,” Conan asked
“Well after being MIA in the music business for a while I had a little mental block for a bit, but something inspired me to write this song and I guess that’s what makes it such a good song. It was built on something real and raw ya know?” I smiled
“Something? Or do you someone? You’ve recently confirmed your relationship with lead singer 5 seconds of summer, Luke hemmings, so does that have anything to do with the making of this song?” Conan winked
“As much as I hate to give that boy the satisfaction, this song might’ve sorta been written about him,” I blushed
The camera immediately panned over to Luke who was sitting in the front row earning loud screams from the female attendees in the crowd. He shyly waved to the camera then focused his attention back on me. I could tell through his smile I was gonna be in for it after the interview. Boy was I right.
“Josie Castano wrote a song about me!” He chimed in every second as I drove home
“Are you ever gonna let this down?” I groaned
“Nope,” he smiled continuing his teasing. After I dropped him off at his hotel I got a call from Kate
“JOSIE!” She yelled into the phone
“WHAT?” I yelled back in the phone
“Guess who’s playing at the vmas again!” She sang
“Oh my god! No fucking way!” I yelled in disbelief. I’ve played the vma stage three times already but I still could never believe id actually get to play there again or even at all for that matter. She gave me all the details and I was even more excited. I fell asleep with a smile on my face because tomorrow was the start of the rehearsals for the award show. I stood with mike, cal, ash, and Luke in front of center stage just admiring it
“God we’re playing this fucking stage in a week,” Michael said in amazement
“Unbelievable,” ashton breathed as the crew continued setting up
“Jo, what’s it like?” Calum asked
“It’s something completely out of this world, you’d all love it. It’s really just fucking amazing,”
