Hiccup
"Settle down! Settle down!" I yelled over the roar of the crowd.
"What do you mean she lost the baby?!" A villager cried from the crowd.
"Astrid did not lose the baby! She just had a miscarriage," I explained as calmly as I could manage.
"Oh! Same thing!"
"Well, 'losing the baby' makes it sound like it's her fault." I reason with him.
"It is though isn't it!" An angry town person yells.
I glared at him, trying to control my anger. "I mean, she must be pretty weak if she can't even handle pregnancy!" The same townsperson yelled.
"THAT'S IT! THIS IS NOT ASTRID'S FAULT AND I WILL NOT HAVE YOU OR ANYONE ON THIS ISLAND SAY ANYTHING AGAINST THAT!!" I lost it, screaming at the top of my lungs.
"Town meeting dismissed!" I say quickly and ran out, only wanting to see Astrid.
"They're right you know," A familiar voice came from behind me.
"Astrid-" I turned to see my wife hidden against the stairs, the same one where we decided to keep our relationship secret. She was crying, after obviously hearing the meeting, or at least my yells.
"I can't handle pregnancy! It's all my fault that I couldn't give Berk a heir, I'm worthless." She muttered.
"You're not worthless," I told her, close to tears myself.
"Everyone in there seemed to think so," she muttered.
"And theirs is more important than mine?" I asked her.
"No..."
"Then it's settled, come on, we're having dinner at Gobbers," I placed my arm around her and we walked off.
That night when I first told Berk about the death of our unborn child was the worst. Everyone was angry at Astrid, all the men called her weak for losing the baby, and the women were boosting about how they're were stronger than "fearless Astrid" simply because they could carry children.
It's not Astrid's Fault, Gothi explained to us that sometimes pregnancy can be hard for women, she can't explain why that's the case, but it's happened. And women who have trouble with miscarriages also have throuble giving birth...
And that scares me.
