Chapter 17

Hiccup

I snuck out of bed and started getting dressed so I wouldn't wake Astrid. I almost made it out the door when I heard "Hiccup?"

So close. "Yes Astrid?"

"I thought you were going to wake me up?" She asked, smiling with her mouth but her eyes were glaring.

"I just thought you could use some extra sleep, you know with baby H." I said gesturing towards Astrid's 6 month baby bump. We had started calling the baby 'baby H' as in baby Haddock, this child was becoming more and more real for us we come closer to the due date. Astrid hadn't had any problems so far, she'd been doing everything Gothi had told her, eating healthy, not pushing herself too hard and getting a lot of rest. Like a lot of rest.

Gothi had suggested getting more rest than most women so that Astrid's body could put as much energy into the baby's development as possible. Astrid rested as much as she could but she was getting very annoyed.

"But you said..." She pouted. I sighed, I had promised that I would let her have one morning fight with Stormfly. She hadn't had one of those for 4 months. Today was the day I said I'd let her.

"Gothi did tell us that riding Stormfly might tire you -" I protested.

"Whatever! Hiccup you're coming with me and you can make sure I don't 'tire myself out'" she held up quotation marks and rolled her eyes.

"Okay, you get some breakfast while I saddle up Stormfly and Toothless." I told her. She agreed and started raising our food supplies.

"Hey Girl!" Astrid came into the little stables beside our home for Toothless and Stormfly. Stormfly came and nudged Astrid's belly.

"Hmm, it's big isn't it? I can't see my feet!" Astrid told her dragon. "Which also means..." she trailed her eyes over to me. I assisted her in getting on her dragon.

"Be careful with her." I whispered to Stormfly. She nodded and launched. I quickly joined them on Toothless.

"I missed this." Astrid said, as she looked over Berk and back at Stormfly. "Is it just me or was the ground closer last time we were up this high?" She asked, peering over at the ocean underneath us.

"Nope, this is our normal height. Do you want to go down a bit lower?" I asked.

"No it's fine, I suppose I just forgot how high we flew." She answered. I smiled at her, I could tell she missed flying Stormfly.

We did a few laps of Berk before coming back home just as the rest of Berk started to wake.

"Thank you." Astrid told me as she in-saddled Stormfly.

"Anytime." I replied. Smiling at her.

"Okay, I need a nap." She announced.

"So flying did tire you out after all?" I laughed.

"Oh, you know not to listen to any of my claims when I'm pregnant!" She rolled her eyes.

"I know!" I replied.

She went back in to our house and by the time I joined her, she was asleep on the couch. I kissed her forehead, then her bump before I went to do some cheifing stuff.
