the morning we told our padres
I sighed and then smiled. Today was the day.
"Shawnn!" I yell. "Get your ass down here!" I yell louder. "I need a shirt!" he yells back. I sigh. Shawn was a perfectionist. Ugh.
Half an hour later, we drove off down to Toronto, Ontario.
We finally made it there.
Ding Dong. I kept pushing the doorbell.
I could see Aailyah walking up to the door, "Shut up." she mumbled quietly. I chuckled. Shawn was carrying a bagful of presents. I offered to help, but he said that he could manage. I felt sick coming up my throat. I somehow managed to push it back down.
Once Aailyah found the door key, we were greeted by Karen and Manuel. "SHAWNN!" screamed Aailyah, who finally realised he was here, and jumped on him. "Aailyah! You'll ruin my fresh trim!" said Shawn. We all burst into laughter.
After eating sausages, bacon and omelettes, Shawn and I decided to break the news. "Mom? Dad? Aailyah? We've got a surprise for you." I winked at Shawn and he smiled. We handed out our presents and waited for them to open it.
"MY BABY IS GOING TO HAVE A BABY!" screamed Karen, as she held up her gift. Shawn and I gave them all shirts, Karen's said 'I'm going to be a grandma', Manuel's said 'I'm going to be a grandpa' and Aaliyah's said 'I'm going to be an auntie'. On the back of the shirts, it said, 'Baby Mendes on the way'.
"Mom! Your so embarrassing." said Shawn after Karen left a soggy kiss on his forehead. "AH THIS IS EXCITING!" screamed Manuel, who was quite for all this time. "I'M GONNA BE AN AUNTIE, I'M GONNA BE AN AUNTIE." chanted Aailyah, who was deciding a name for Baby Mendes. "How far along are you?" asked Karen. "3 weeks on Monday." I replied. Karen nodded and Manuel smiled. "What about Alex?" asked Aaliyah. Alex Mendes, a girl's and boy's name. I smiled. "Maybe."
After an hour of Uno, we decided it was time to leave. "Stay for tea?" asked Karen. "Mom, we need to get home." replied Shawn. "Aw, don't go!" said Aaliyah. "I'll come visit again!" Aaliyah gave Shawn a big hug.
After we said our byes to the Mendes', we set off, back home.
"Time to tell my family isn't it?" I asked. Shawn nodded. Cheri and Peter Steinfled, my parents, lived in England, London. We couldn't drive all the way there and Shawn had to attend meetings here in Canada, so we couldn't catch a plane either. The only way was Skype.
I opened up my apple mac to load up Skype. I Skype my parents.
dialing, ring ring
"Hello? Hailee?" said my mum.
"Hi mum!" I smile.
"Hi Cheri!" Shawn waves.
"Where's dad?" I ask.
"In the dining room? Why?" she asks.
"Tell him to come here. Get Griffin too." Griffin is my older brother.
"Ok, PETER? GRIFFIN? COME HERE." yells my mum. Me and Shawn fight the urge to laugh at her.
Once they all got there, Shawn and I decided to spill the beans.
"Mom. Dad. Griffin. I'm pregnant." I say, excitedly.
I watch my mum scream and then jump up and down. Griffin says congrats and my dad smiles. My dad never smiled at me. I felt happy.
We talked to my parents for a while, answering all their questions. "Hailee? Shawn? We have to go out shopping. Bye!" says my mum. "Bye!" Shawn and I say in unison.
I was upset. "What if I never get to see them again?" I ask. "They'll come visit one day." he says, smiling. "One day." I smile back. But they're not made of money.
