Chapter 18: Family Surprise

 The plane ride home made me really tired, and John decided to carry me cause he called me fragile, or fragile merchandise on board. Sometimes he can twist my gears, but I love every bit of it. He chuckled as he started walking up the stairs to the mansion, and I heard silence all around us. I was a little worried, but as soon as he opened the door people jumped out.

"Surprise! Welcome home!" They all shouted in unison. I held my chest and put my hands on my stomach as I watched everyone cheer that we we're home. I smiled as Shelby came into view with my father. I jumped out of John's arms and walked over to them being careful of the now precious cargo.

"Welcome home Cupcake." Dad said kissing my head and hugging me. Shelby smiled at me and hugged me as well.

"I found out the gender of the baby." She said into my ear. I gasped and started jumping up and down but soon stopped remembering I was pregnant myself. "Come on everyone, I will be opening the box to reveal the gender." She said happily. She walked into the large living room with everyone following even me and John.

I sat down on the couch with John next to me and everyone around us and sitting on the floor as well. Shelby smiled and walked to the big box. "So in this box, I have the gender of the baby, and the cake will also have the gender. And I hope you all like this surprise." She said looking around at everyone in my family and even some of John's family and staff. She took a deep breath and slowly started to lift the lid. I got so excited that I almost fell off the couch if it wasn't for John holding me still. He laughed lightly and kissed my forehead. She lifted the lid fully and a black balloon came out. I got confused until she pulled out a needle. She popped the balloon and the color came out. Blue. I smiled. Oh but it wasn't over. She smiled as another black balloon popped up and many people screamed in happiness. She popped that balloon and the color of the confetti was pink. I gasped. Twins!!. "Yes everyone, I am having twins. The cake will have their genders in it as well. Now let's all celebrate. There is cupcakes, cookies and cake of course. Enjoy!" She said. I ran towards her and hugged her.

"I'm gonna be an aunt. Of not only one kid, but two. You can't be fucking serious Shelby." I said looking up at her. She laughed lightly and touched my shoulder.

"Oh but I am serious Cupcake." She said as she walked towards people calling her. Aunt Matilda and Uncle David. I rolled my eyes, yes I don't like them, they caused to much for my mother and father that made them move all the way away from my grandparents. I haven't seen them since. I looked around the room, my heart stopped as I saw my grandma sitting with younger children around her as she told stories. I slowly walked over to listen.

"My granddaughter Angelic always got in trouble with her father, my son. But she was the treasure he always held close to him, even Shelby got into trouble with Angelic. I haven't seen the girls since they left, Angelic is said to live here now cause she married a rich man. I just wish I could see her before my passing." She said. The children awed as she started crying and they all hugged her. Where was my grandpa? I continued to look for him until grandma was by herself. I looked back over and she was. She sat there and looked around herself. I slowly walked over and kneeled in front of her.

"Hello grandma." I said softly. She looked at me suspiciously. She lifted my chin with her bony fingers and let go of my face.

"Who are you?" She asked. I felt a little hurt that she didn't recognize me. I took a deep breath and looked up at her with my blue eyes.

"Grandma it's me, Angelic." I said softly. Her eyes widened and she hugged me tightly.

"Oh my little Angel, are you alright, where's your husband I would really like to meet him." She said looking around. I smiled at her and looked towards John motioning for him to come over. He told his parents something and started walking towards me. "That's him, you hit the jackpot like I did with your grandfather." She said with a whisper as she winked at me. I gagged playfully and she smiled and rubbed my head. John came over and kneeled next to me.

"Are you alright Angel?" He asked as he smiled at me then tipped his head at grandma.

"Oh and a gentleman." She said laughing as she lifted his chin and checked his facial features. "You will make some beautiful children, I hope to see some handsome young men running around." She said as she patted his head.

"Grandma, where is grandpa?" I asked looking up at her. Her smile instantly fell. My heart sank as I watched her expression go from happy, to sad in a matter of seconds.

"Oh Angel, your dad never told you did he?" She asked looking at me sadly and at John, he knew the look in her eyes meant hold me, so he did.

"Tell me what?" I asked looking at her as my voice broke. Shelby soon noticed and started to walk over.

"Angel, you're grandfather passed away five years ago." She said, my heart shattered as I heard that. Shelby stopped in her tracks, did she already know. I looked at Shelby and then at grandma. "Your father told Shelby, I thought he would have told you as well." She said rubbing my cheek. That's when the waterworks started to work. I felt tears running down my face. John held me tightly as I cried. I pushed off of him and ran out to the garden. I fell to my knees and looked up at the sky.

"Mom if you can hear me, please take care of grandpa." I said through a broken heart and tears. I heard running footsteps behind me. I turned to see John running towards me. He fell to his knees in front of me and pulled me into him.

"Angel everything's gonna be okay, I promise, I am right here." He said into my hair I closed my eyes as his heartbeat calmed me down. I sighed and stood up.

"Grandpa and mom would want me to be strong." I said looking back up at the sky. "Let's head back inside." I said as I held my hand out to him. He took it and stood up, walking with his arm around my waist as we walked back inside to tell everyone our news.
