Guess who it will be? I'll give you three guesses!
Happy Pearl Harbor Day!
Draco couldn't stop reading the book Professor Weasley gave him. It was exactly what he was looking for, a theory book on innate magic. He read each page more thoroughly than any other book he had ever read. He tried to do a few spells it suggested to focus his aura and stabilize his magic flow, but they didn't last very long. He decided it would be a nightly chore, trying the meditation spells.
Blaise and Theo were somewhat surprised, when Draco started to practice magic without a wand. They didn't know he could do it, not that he hid it. He just never brought it up. Core Magic wasn't a subject at Hogwarts. They barely went over nonverbals.
"You gonna stay in bed all day?" Blaise asked.
"No, but I want to keep reading for a bit longer."
"Reading? You haven't stopped reading that thing since last night. Did you even sleep?"
"Yes, I did. I went to sleep at eleven. It's just fascinating."
"I can see that. Why did... Professor Weasley... give it to you?" Blaise said, having difficulty saying the word.
"I don't know... I think he noticed I wasn't using my wand to do his assignment."
"Yeah... speaking of that... when were you going to tell us that you apparently don't need a wand to do magic?"
"Umm... sorry... I just... never really thought about it. It's difficult to explain how I'm doing it and I don't know what I'm doing. It's how I fixed the cabinet. That's what this book is explaining."
"You've been able to do wandless magic since our sixth year?" Blaise said.
"Actually, the first time was right after our third year," Draco admitted.
Blaise and Theo looked at him flabbergasted.
"I really didn't understand it, then. I just wanted to..." Draco said and paused, pain etching his his face.
"What Dray?" Blaise said, sitting down on his bunk.
"I wanted to heal my mother... but I didn't know how." Draco swallowed hard and Blaise put his hand on his. "I think it worked. She looked better. But I didn't have a wand and she was in pain. I just reached inside me and she was better. I don't know how."
"Morgana's cauldron, Dray! That's extremely difficult. But you can do any spell, now?"
"Not any spell... and it takes a lot longer to work... usually. I have to be careful. The more spells I cast the more tired and exhausted I get."
"Damn," Theo said. "I don't think you'll have a problem with practicals on your NEWTS. They give you a higher grade when you use nonverbal... probably more if you don't even use a wand."
"That's just it, Theo. It's a lot of spells, I can only do so many. I can do nonverbal spells easily, though. But my wand... it isn't going to be that easy. Sure, if I don't know the answer and can use a wordless spell but...."
"You can use wordless spells, too!" Blaise yelped.
"Umm... yeah," Draco said, sheepishly. "I wasn't trying to hide it from you... I just didn't want to talk about it, or let other people know."
"Bloody fucking hell, Dray... that's amazing! You know how hard and difficult it is to learn those spells?"
"Yeah... I passed out several times," he admitted.
