A cool breeze blew through the open window, waking Dean Winchester from his sleep. He leaned over and glanced at his clock. 8:39am it read.
"Dammit. Already late.” He rolled out of bed with a yawn and trudged into the bathroom, still wrapped in his blanket. Dean lived alone with his 15 year old little brother Sammy in a small house on the outskirts of the colony, close to the edge of the forest. He made a living by hunting monsters with his friends. Well, he didn’t make a living hunting, as it didn’t pay, but he considered it his job. He made most of his money through gambling and swindling people at bars.
“Rise and shine Sammy!” Dean yelled as he knocked on his little brother’s door. He turned on the radio and “Heat of the Moment” began to play. He danced around the house, singing along to the music.
“Dean. Asia, Really?” Sam opened the door, still half asleep. His long brown hair stuck out in all different angles.
“Oh come on, you love this song and you know it.” Dean replied as he switched the music off. Sam groaned and sat down at the table.
“What do we have for breakfast?” he yawned.
“We have…” Dean hopped over to the pantry and opened the door. “Slightly moldy bread, half eaten bag of chips, and… pie!” he replied cheerfully.
“I’ll have the p—“
“No, the pie is mine.” Dean glared at Sam jokingly, “Okaaay fine we can share it.” He opened the box and cut the pie into two pieces, giving Sam slightly more than himself.
“Don’t you want the bigger piece Dean?” Sam asked.
“No its fine Sammy, you can have it.”
“Thank you.” Dean nodded.
“So… how’s school?” Dean looked up at his brother.
“Great, really great.” Sam grinned to himself. Dean studied him for a moment.
“It’s a girl, isn’t it?” Sam nodded. “ Ooh,” Dean leaned in to his brother and spoke with a sing-song voice, “what’s her name?”
“Jessica Moore. She’s really nice and really smart. I’m walking with her to school today.”
“Well, good luck dude.” He stood up and gave his brother a pat on the back.
“Good. You’ve got your knife right?”
“Yes.” He pulled the small pocket knife out of his shoe and held it up so Dean could see it. “I still don’t see why I need this. It’s really weird to be carrying this everywhere.”
“It’s just to keep you safe.”
“…okay.” Sammy shifted his eyes to the side.
