Katie
My brother, Jake, took me to the park. Well, actually, I forced him to take me. It was a great afternoon. Mrs. Sunshine was up, hiding behind the white clouds. Mr. Wind was present too, making a perfect breeze; perfect for flying kites! I love kites!
Sometimes, I imagine myself riding a big kite and putting my hands up in the air, letting those fluffy clouds brush against my fingers.
We arrived at the park after a few minutes. I saw less than ten kids running around the green meadow, shouting and laughing at each other. There were also teenagers and old people sitting on the benches.I had no further interest in knowing whatever boring things they were doing so I just focused on getting my pink butterfly kite up in the air.
"One, two, three, run!" Jake shouted, letting go of my kite. I started running, tightly holding the tube of string connected to my kite. I ran and ran, waiting for my kite to fly up high.
But it didn't.
I don't give up on first tries so I tried again; and again; and again.
"Kiddo, just let me do it, so we can move on with our lives," Jake said, losing faith in my abilities, again!
"One last try, Jake. I can do this!" I breathed out deeply and then wiped the sweat off my nose with my sleeve. Jake picked up the kite with his long hands and held it up in the air again, sighing.
"One, two, run!" He shouted throwing the kite up. I bolted forward, looking at my kite behind me. It whirled round and round.
I kept running, panting.
It started to fly!
I looked forward to run a bit more but bam! I bumped into someone and we stumbled down the grass.
My nose fell flat on someone else's nose. I pushed my hands against the tingling grass and stood up.
"Sorry, are you alright?" I asked, checking my nose for blood or broken bones. There weren't any.
Thank goodness!
I looked back at the kid. He was still on the ground, also pinching and checking his nose's condition. I offered my hand to help him stand up but he just stared at me.
"Are you alright?" I asked again. He wasn't responding. I must have hit him really hard.
"Yeah, I'm, I'm good," he muttered and stood up, "are you alright?"
I was about to answer but Jake came running to me, panicking.
"Katie, did you bruise yourself again? Mom's gonna kill me if she sees another bruise on her princess," Jake said, searching my face and my knees for bruises. My brothers always panic too much when I trip or fall to the ground. I have two brothers and they all worry too much about me since I am their only "princess". I told them many times that I'm not a princess, I'm more cooler and stronger than that.
"Jake, I'm fine." I said and looked back at the boy.
"You, little boy, are you okay?" Jakes asked looking at him.
"Ugh, yeah. I'm good." He mumbled.
"I'm Katie by the way," I stretched out my hand to him.
He stared at it for a short moment again and then shook it. "I'm-"
"Mom's calling. We need to go home now." Jake interrupted, yanking my hand to walk away. While walking towards the car, I kept my eyes on the boy, trying to remember why he seemed so familiar.
I slipped my hand away from Jake's and ran back to the boy to ask his name and what school he goes to.
"I'm, uh, Kristof. I just, uh, transferred to a new school, Trapper, elementary department," he answered. I was gonna tell him I go to the same school and we should be friends but Jake won't stop calling me so I just bid him goodbye.
I'm gonna see him next week at school anyway. :D
