"Let's start with Roman. Shall we?" The darkness consumed my every sense. I was drowning in it. The only thing I could feel was his hand in mine. I could feel the air whip around me, giving me a sense of falling. A sense of disappearing. No sound to escape... No light to break through...
I closed my eyes, trying to think of anything but the deafening silence. For a split second, I felt a pair of arms wrap around me and could smell gingerbread in the air. I could feel the warmth the emitted. I could hear there heartbeat. A face crossed my mind... A bight smile...
I jumped, surprised at the intrusive thoughts, only to see there was no one else there. There was no one holding me. There was no cinnamon scent in the air. There was no warmth, no heartbeat. There was no bright smile.
I felt a hand remove itself from my mine and I looked down to see Chris skip out in front of me, bending slight and clasping his hands like some pose you would see on those anime shows Virgil watches.
I tried to ask him where we were but no sound came out. The kid just held a finger to his lips and pointed to a door. His smile faltering as the sound of crying echoed through the empty halls. The world rushed around me and soon we were in Roman's room.
"Roman, are you in there? I need to go over something with you." My eyes widened at the sound of my voice coming through the door. I could hear loud sounds through the bathroom. It was like someone was just throwing thing about and closing things. Not mention the sudden sound of the water running. I watched as Roman came running out of the bathroom, with a towel around his neck and a dripping face. It looked like he had splashed water on his face to hide the tears that I knew I heard not too long ago. The knocking resumed and Roman had dunk out of the way after opening the door just so that he didn't get hit the face.
"Jez, Logan. You don't have to beat down my... What's wrong?" The look on the other me's face was deep and scornful. Roman just awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck unsure what to do. "Logan?"
"I just came from Patton's room. Virgil was there." Roman's eyes went wide and I started to remember when this had taken place. Roman and Virgil had gotten in this big fight, causing Roman to lash out and break a gift Patton had just given the Anxious trait. It sent Virgil into an attack with cause Thomas to have one too. It wasn't pretty and I had gotten upset because I was the one who had to pick up the mess. "Where is it Roman? What did you do with it?"
"I'I uh... Well, you see..." Roman took a step back and started to look uncomfortable. When Virgil ran off Roman had picked up the broken. I had never actually seen what the gift was I just knew it took Patton forever to make. "It was broken and it was a mess. So... I threw it out."
The other me groaned, gripping the bridge of his nose in frustration. He dropped his hand and looked at Roman with an emotionless expression and a deathly glare.
"Are you mentally damaged? Are you just incapable of thinking about others for once? Only a moron such as yourself would think throwing out a gift from Patton was a good idea." My eyes widened as the words left the other me's mouth. I honestly didn't remember anything after he told me he threw it away. I had gotten so angry... Did I block it out? It's understandable seeing as how I am the logical trait and emotions mess with the higher functionality of cognition. To be too emotional would be detrimental to ones state. Moreover, it would be detrimental for one's logic and blocking it out would provide less backlash in the future. Now, however, I might have wished to not have said such charged words. "Now I have to go figure out a way to calm them both down before Thomas ends up sick. All this is is more work for myself and less time for things that actually matter!"
"Logan, I..."
"I don't want to hear it, Roman. Thanks to you and your foolishness, I'm going to have to work overtime." I watched as the other me walked away not even bothering to say goodbye. I understand, after all, things were getting worse.
With Virgil upset things, were growing dark, cold, and more than a little anxious. I had to somehow fix everything. While at the same time dealing with Patton's depressive episode over his sons having fought again and his gift getting lost. He had worked so hard on it and knew Virgil loved it. And Since Patton is the hub of emotions, him being upset caused everything to get slow and sad. It was like this constant pressure and a feeling of not wanting to do anything.
It was a bad day. With everything else going on it only made it worse when everything started to crash. The thing is we all affect the mindspace in someway. If we all start to go downhill things go bad very fast and it has no choice to go dark. Otherwise, Thomas suffers. So you can understand why I was fuming when I was finally getting work down and everything shut down.
"That hasn't happened yet." I looked over at Chris and saw him frowning. He looked up at me with a tear in his eyes and I groan. I am so tired of emotions. "The Crash hasn't happened yet. Your jumping ahead instead of focusing on what's happing now."
I rolled my eyes but didn't say anything. He was right. I was jumping ahead but I see no reason to stay and watch this. It means nothing for the future. I looked over at Roman and sighed as he finally closed the door. How long had he just been standing there after I left? He walked over to the desk, towel dropping to the floor as he did, and took a deep breath.
"Damn it, Roman. You need to use your damn head." I heard him say as he slammed his hands down on the desk. The was a noise that came from the drawer and his this look of fear crossed his face. He opened the drawer, revealing broken glass. It was to messed up to recognize but the look of relief that crossed his eyes made me think nothing was bad... or worse more likely. I glanced over at Chris to see his eyes wide and completely shocked. Whatever was in the drawer he knew what it was.
I watched as Roman sat down in his chair and started taking some pieces out. He sat in silence working to try to fix it. Which was odd, because Roman usually always has music playing. That or a Disney movie, something to help fill the space. However this time he just sat there, glue in hand desperately trying to get things to stick. Part way through he started to get frustrated. Nothing was working. I watched as he placed the glue down a little forcefully on the desk and the whole thing came tumbling down. He jumped up out of his chair and chucked it at the wall, breaking it too. He gripped his hair and fell to the floor as tears slowly dropped from his face.
"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to... I'm just a moron. I can't do anything right..." I heard him mumble into his arms and my heart dropped. The lights started to flicker as his sobs got louder. I could hear like the sound of a vacuum came through the door and I my breathing nearly stopped. I watched as the lights got brighter like a sudden surge until... POP! Everything went dark.
"JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!" I heard the other me yell through the door in frustration. When the lights finally came back on, there Roman was out cold, gripping his shirt like it was his only lifeline. Roman had lost it too. He had had an attack with Patton and Virgil, and the mindspace shut them down. It's just what happens. The mind space targeted what is causing the issues and stopped it before it got worse. In this case, all three of the sides were out cold for a good 3 hours. It was the first time I had an actual silence in a while. At the time I was happy. Of course I hadn't fully understood the extent of the crash but still, I was happy for the peace. Now...
not so much...
"Your words cut him." I looked over at Chris as he walked over and knelt beside Roman. He glanced up at me and frowned. "What you said hurt him, and then this happened."
"I was not the cause. His frustration was."
"You were what sparked it. Take responsibility for your action." He turned his head and sort of duck-billed and pouted. Mumbling under his breath so I couldn't hear him completely. " Looks... Thom.... isn't the only... less... Adultery."
"What?!" Chris just waved me off and stood up. This kid really is testing my patients. "It doesn't matter what set him off anyway. In the end, he still would have gotten here. Roman is simply... Dramatic!"
"LOGAN!" I looked away and scoffed. I wasn't lying Roman would still have gotten upset. He was dramatic. But I am not closed off to not know the part I played. I just down want to admit my guilt to a five-year-old looking boy, whom I have never met before. "Fine... Let's go."
