Wear something warm.
Winter in Australia proved to be nothing compared to winters in Canada. During Canadian winter, everywhere you went, you would go with layers upon layers to ensure complete warmth. Australia's winters weren't near that, but to Ashton, who had lived here is whole life, it probably felt at least 30 degrees colder than it did to Elaina, because he endured scalding summers.
Ashton told Elaina to be prepared for cold. She had no idea of what this date would entail, but she was definitely looking forward to kissing him again. His lips distracted her all day at work, so much that she gave three people the wrong change. Ashton might eventually get me fired, she thought.
Bundled in a sweater, jeans, boots with built-in stockings (a newly accquired item in her closet), her red trench coat, and mittens, she waited for Ashton at the door.
He came five minutes early, bundled even warmer than Elaina.
The red glow in Ashton's cheeks and on the tip of his nose told Elaina that it would be cold, probably the coldest night of the week. He grinned as he saw her, dimples prominent in his rosy cheeks.
"Hi!" he greeted sweetly, leaning in to kiss her. Elaina happily accepted the kiss. Sometime during the kiss, Ashton managed to shut the door behind him and lead her to the wall. They were happily smooching like they had done it a million times before: everything just felt natural.
"Ready to go?" Ashton asked as he pulled a way. A cheeky grin overtook his features and Elaina nodded happily.
"Oh, here."
Pulling out a simple black beanie, Ashton placed it on Elaina's head, tugging it down over her ears and concealing her honey-coloured curls that he seemed to infatuated with. He let his fingers linger on the curls for a minute before taking her hand and leading her out the door.
Dinner was casual; nothing too fancy. Ashton took Elaina to a lovely cafe, which wasn't very crowded and had heavenly onion rings. Elaina adored onion rings, as she explained to Ashton after biting into the crispy breading.
Elaina couldn't help but be surprised as to where they went after dinner.
"Have you seen much of Sydney?" he asked, pulling his coat tighter with his left hand, as his right was tangled in Elaina's. She shook her head while gazing at the city around her.
"Well, that's a good thing, because I've wanted to show you the city myself since the day you sat next to me on the train." Elaina blushed red for about the millionth time that night.
On cue, a large carriage pulled up, pulled by three white horses. "I thought maybe a night tour of the city on a carriage would be nice, and Luke knows a guy..." he put his hands in his pockets nervously.
"Ashton, I love it. Wow." she breathed. She had no idea what to do or say, so she decided to give Ashton a bone-crushing hug. "No one has ever done anything like this for me." she mumbled into his coat-adorned chest.
So Ashton and Elaina took a night tour of the gorgeous city, pointing out everything monumental or extravagant. Elaina even fell asleep in a heap of limbs with Ashton on the couch after the carriage ride. Nothing would ever be better than this, Elaina was certain.
