Many people have no concept of how love - or being loved - affects you, that it affects your mind, your body, your nerves. It plays with the way you think and the way you carry yourself, the way you talk, and the way you react to things.

Ashton had no idea until he found himself thinking of Elaina if he said something (or someone else said something) that reminded him of her. He wore the shirts Elaina told him he looked best in. He styled his hair the way Elaina preferred. He wore the cologne she always complimented him on.

Every moment not spent working or visiting his mates, Michael and Calum, was spent watching movies or talking or even making out with Elaina, because God, she was everything he ever wanted.

He drove down the road, hand on her thigh and the Chili's playing in the background. Elaina had come to like them in the time she spent with Ashton.

"Do you maybe want to come visit Calum and Michael with Luke and me next weekend?" he knew it was a lot to ask of her, especially since she had only met them once over the phone.

Elaina remained silent.

"You don't have to, I don't want to pressure you into anything, they've just been dying to meet you and you probably need a weekend away after working so hard."

Her short fingers absentmindedly looped through Ashton's longer ones. She waited another minute or so before opening her mouth to speak.

"Sure." the answer was clipped, nervous, but Ashton would take care of her. He hoped she knew that.

"They aren't bad, a little mischevious, but not bad. Last time I stayed they saw my lockscreen and..." Ashton blushed and averted his eyes to anything but Elaina. She giggled from the passenger seat, tugging their hands that rested on the console into her lap. The gesture made Ashton's heart melt.

"Was I your lockscreen?" she wiggled her eyebrows and Ashton blushed a deeper shade of red. "Still are." he whispered. Hoping she hadn't heard him, he looked over, only to see her smiling brightly. She lifted his hands up and kissed his healing knuckles one by one.

"You're too cute. If you're going to be his cute, we're gonna need to go grocery shopping more often." he chuckled. Elaina leaned over to press a kiss to his cheek just as they arrived at the super market.

Immediately after parking, Elaina dropped his hand and opened the door.

"What was that for?" Ashton called, getting out of his own side of the car. She smirked.

"Race you to the milk aisle."
