→Ashton
Ashton had high hopes of seeing Elaina again.
Elaina was shy, reserved, and mysterious to Ashton. She didn't seem very interested in talking about most subjects, but acted so passionate about others. This girl confused Ashton, which he took as a complete surprise.
Most of the time, Ashton had girls fawning over him. Multiple times had a girl walked across a coffee shop to slide him a little slip of paper, which he disguarded immediately. But this girl was different.
Tugging his gloves farther up his wrist, he sat down on a bench, ready for the train to come. Australia was bitterly cold this time of year and Ashton wasn't so fond of that. He plugged in a pair of headphones and passed the time by listening to some Red Hot Chili Peppers.
A flash of a red trench coat caught his eye as it rounded the corner, followed by golden tresses. He couldn't see the person wearing the coat, though, only the shadow behind the person. He could smell perfume though. The perfume smelled just like the one Elaina wore only the day before. God, he loved that perfume. He dreamt about the perfume.
He should've asked her why she was riding the train. The train is dangerous, especially for people who aren't from anywhere around the city.
People began filing out of the train and Ashton trudged over, unplugging his headphones just in case there was an important announcement.
Sitting in the same seat he always sits in, Ashton patiently waited for others to get settled. He tapped around on his phone for a bit before seeing the bright red trench coat.
Ashton snagged the inside of her elbow, tugging lightly to direct her to the empty seat since most of the others were full.
"Thank you. I'm not from-" she peered over and her mouth formed a perfect "o" when she noticed Ashton. "Hi, Ashton,"
Ashton's stomach lurched at the way she said his name, then tucked her hair behind her ear shyly.
"Hi," he couldn't hide the blush creeping onto his cheeks. He had never been this nervous before, especially talking to a girl. Usually he was a smooth talker, all bright smiles (don't forget the dimples that swooned the girls) and clever words. Now his brain couldn't properly form words, let alone clever words.
"Um, I hope you don't think I'm being to forward, but could I have your phone number?" Ashton asked, a hopeful smile stretching onto his face.
Elaina visibly paled but kept quiet. "Well, erm, I just - no."
What?
"No?' confusion was evident in the curly-haired boy as she said the word. His face flushed in embarrassment.
"I really want to give it to you - I do, I promise - but I just don't know if that's a good idea. You don't really know me, Ashton."
Ashton couldn't be more surprised at how calm she was. It felt like she had refected many people this way, and Ashton became curious as to why she didn't want to exchange numbers.
Without hesitating, Ashton pulled a pen from his pocket and a gum wrapper that was also floating around.
Ashton Irwin
(xxx)-xxx-xxxxHe handed the paper to a speechless Elaina and she took it warily.
"Just in case you need anything. You know, in the big city." he elaborated and she flashed a forced smile, enough for Ashton to be content.
All too soon, Elaina was once again gone and Ashton stayed left to himself on the full train that still felt empty.
