→Ashton
He should've known she wouldn't ride the train the next day.
Or the day after that.
It had been one week since Elaina sat next to him on the train, and Ashton really needed to see her again. He really couldn't focus at work, or in his college classes. Flashes of honey-coloured locks and hazel eyes overtook his wandering mind every time he tried to pay attention. Elaina's accent seemed way more interesting than Pythagorean Theorem.
There was just one flaw to seeing Elaina again: Ashton had no way of contacting her. No mobile number, no address. He didn't know her last name, for Christ's sake!
It seemed that Ashton would never see Elaina again, until around six p.m. on Thursday evening, just as Ashton walked out of the front door to the local video store, his phone rang.
"Hello?" he said into the reciever, moving the phone from his left ear to his right, as he was carrying a satchel full of books in the other hand.
"Ashton, I'm really sorry to bother you, I just -" Elaina.
Just when Ashton thought he would never hear from her again.
"No, it's totally OK. I gave you my number so you could call me if you needed anything. What's up?" he assured to a frantic Elaina on the other end.
She sighed and Ashton chuckled slightly. "I'm lost. The train was scheduled to leave at six, but I can't even find the station. Is there any possible way you could come get me?"Ashton grinned and thanked God for allowing her to get lost. He wasn't happy about the misfortune, but the opportunity to see her again.
"Of course! Where are you at?"
He could hear some shuffling on the other, Elaina probably looking at a street sign. "On the corner or 42nd and Ridgeway." she replied after a few seconds. Surprisingly enough, Ashton knew right where it was; just a few blocks down from his old high school.
"Ok, I'll be there in ten." Ashton said quickly before Elaina thanked him and hung up.
Luckily, with the slight chance of rain, Ashton had borrowed his roommate/friend's car. His name was Luke and he worked everyday except for Thursday and Saturday.
Clouds overcasted the blue sky and slight rain began falling just as Ashton pulled away from the curb. The drizzle soon turned into a downpour and he couldn't help but worry about how wet Elaina would be by the time he got there.
So, he drove about seven miles over the speed limit and arrived in six minutes instead of ten. As predicted, Elaina was utterly drenched, makeup smeared down her face and fringe dripping into her eyes.
Ashton quickly unbuckled and grabbed a spare towel from the back seat. He had just gone swimming with his mates yesterday and fortunately had a towel and some extra clothes.
"Ashton," Elaina puffed a sigh of relief and took the towel, scurrying to the passenger seat of the car. Ashton turned up the heat; it was cold anyway and Elaina shook from the cold.
Elaina was silent for a moment, just looking down at her lap before speaking. "I really appreciate this. I - um - I'm staying at the Super 8 on King Street." she quicklly diverts her gaze from Ashton and out the window.
The fact that Elaina, a seemingly composed and organized girl from Canada, payed for a hotel room at a rundown Super 8 did more than shock Ashton. He utterly couldn't believe this.
"Elaina, do you need a place to stay?" Ashton knew she would probably refuse and say something about "not wanting to be a burden" or "I'm a big girl," but he was once again surprised when her cheeks reddened.
"Actually, um, could I? I know you don't really know me, but we kind of know each other and I haven't acutally payed for a room at the motel yet and -"
Elaina's rambling caused Ashton to chuckle. "It's fine, I offered you a place to stay. You're welcome any time." he tried to assure her, but she still looked completely embarrassed.
Nobody said anything else the rest of the way, and before they knew it, Ashton was pulling into the lot of the building where the flat with his best mate Luke was located.
