Life for a velociraptor is tough. Especially when the pack has many members and food is hard to find.
The alpha of the Gnashers pack stood on the edge of a rock outcropping surveying his land. Looking for any sign of prey, his pack was starving and soon they would be to weak to hunt.
There! He seen movement it looked to be an adult Camptosaurus. Licking his lips the alpha calculated how long it would take to get to the Camptosaurus.
It would take roughly ten minutes to get to the Camptosaurus. Warbling, the alpha called to his pack of 11.
They all appeared, looking at him anxiously. "What is it you need alpha Vitian?" A quick witted greenish brown female questioned.
"I've found prey." Alpha Vitain said with a twitch of his head. The pack quickly grew excited.
The alpha led them threw the forest, to were he had seen the Camptosaurus. He stopped about a hundred yards from the creature.
"Stix and Moon," he said pausing to make eye contact with the two, "you two will be distracting the prey." He ordered.
The rest of the pack split up each going a different way. They planned on having the two distract the prey, and while it was distracted the rest of the pack would kill it.
On a different part of the island, a gray with dark grey stripes, female watched her sister's wee ones.
A white wee one with black spots running down her back, ran up to her aunt. "Play with us! Please!" She begged her aunt.
"Sure." The aunt said. Before standing up and stretching her hind legs.
Letting out a chirp, she called to all of the wee ones. The all ran out of the grass and up to their aunt.
"Are you all ready to play stalk and run?" She asked them. They all chirped in response. "Run. I'm it." The aunt said.
The younglings all ran into the grass to hide. Hoping they wouldn't be found.
Giving them a full minute to hide, then stalking, silently into the grass. Listening carefully, she heard little claws scrapping against the dirt.
Lunging forward she pinned down two younglings. They chirped in protest, but they knew they lost.
Letting them up, Polar started stalking the next set of younglings. There listen! The grass rustled to her right.
Lunging she pinned down two more little ones. Now there was only one left, crafty Barrow.
Taking in a new strategy Polar sat down and waited. Not moving a muscle, she waited a good ten minutes before Barrow came close to her.
Slowly standing up, she caught sight of Barrow. Lunging forward she pinned poor startled Barrow to the ground.
The two then walked back to where the others where supposed to be waiting.
"Mama!" Barrow shrieked before running up to her mother. Chuffing her mother nuzzled Barrow.
"I see you still have a soft spot for playing with the younglings." Barrow's mother, Ring teased her younger sister.
"What? It's fun." Polar told her older sister. "Just don't let alpha catch you doing that. You remember what happened last time." Ring said gravely.
Polar sighed before looking at a big jagged scar that ran down her left leg. Last time she played with the younglings, the alpha attacked her, because she didn't listen to him.
He specifically told her not to play with the younglings, but she didn't listen so there was repercussions for her disobedience.
Alpha Taeka was secretly afraid Polar would take over the pack, so he was always an asshat towards her.
Injuring her when he could, so if she did challenge him her injuries would hold her back.
"Come on younglings, I've got food!" The alpha, Polar's father called to the younglings.
He glared at Polar, growling softly under his breath. I have to kick her out soon. He thought to himself.
