Roxy drove to Emma to the Rehab Center. It was about 3:15 P.M. when they left school. The center was on the outer side of town. It was out of the way from Roxy'a drive home, but she didn't mind. It was 3:37 when they pulled up to the gate. Emma put the passcode to enter; she got out of the car and thanked Roxy and Madeline. They drove away to go pick up Ronan.
Emma entered the double wooden doors and walked up to the bulletproof glass window. The Secretary lady looked at her, rolled her eyes. She recognized Emma because she looked so much like her mother, Stacey.
The lady went throw her files. "Sign in here, ma'am," the lady said, handing Emma a paper of Stacey's history visits. The paper only had Emma and their lawyers on it.
She signed in and handed the paper back. She was buzzed in, "thank you. I know my way."
Emma arrived to room 1315 and knocked. She heard a thump at the door. Emma opened the door.
"Hello mother," Emma said curiously. She seen that Stacey had thrown a pencil at the door as it was stuck in the back of the door.
Stacey looked up, "hello to the reason I'm in this place."
"Mom, that was your choice to cheat on your boyfriend with Isai-"
"Don't you dare speak his name! You know damn well I didn't cheat," yelled Stacey as she cut off her daughter. "What do you want? What are you here for? Its not Christmas or your birthday."
"Do I need a reason to see the one who gave me life??"
They spoke like this to each other all the time, constantly bringing up the Cole's and the past. Emma wanted her to leave it behind, but Stacey was reminded everyday in her daily W.W. W. classes, which stood for What Went Wrong?
"I love you, my dear Emma, but out of random, yes I think you need a reason. Especially since I haven't seen you since Christmas 2 years ago."
"Fine, today was the first day of school. I'm a sophomore now. I wanted some advice. Grandparents never allowed me to come here. But they went on a business trip. Three months ago, mom, Kyle left me for Julie," Emma's eyes started to water, she refuses to cry. Then she smiled through the menories, "I spent most of summer, when ever I could, with Roxy. Mom, I want something, but-"
She cut her off again, "Emma, I don't know what you're thinking but it you better keep it in your grade. I swear to Minn Ju, if you end up here with me... No, please, I love you, I can only say with as many rules you have over you, because of me, don't be stupid. The medicine is kicking in, go."
"They're drugging you again?! You said you... You're right, you know me too well. I love you too, goodbye mother. I hope it to not be another 2 years."
Emma walked out still on the verge of tears. Her mother could never help her. Roxy would never understand. Her other friends definitely wouldn't. What Emma was missing what Kyle would say, how he held her, when she was sad. She knew she wanted something more than that in her next love, but that's all she knew she wanted. No one in her grade caught her eye, Julie had almost the whole grade against her too. She thought of the only guy who seemed to have made her smile in a long time, the Fuller boy.
She walked out of the building, pulled out her vintage iPod and plugged in her earbuds, turned on her favorite playlist. Emma walked home. It was 4:56 when she left and didn't get home till 6:07.
She went inside and made a sandwich, feed the fish, watched Disney's Tangled, then got ready for bed. She took a shower and wore her favorite Nike pajamas to bed. It was almost 9:30. She had school tomorrow, she couldn't wait to see Jose, and tease him for not finishing their assignment. He was her last thought that night.
