It was a little past 6 o'clock by the time Emma and Jose got to Clownous Café. It was the best café in all of Sweetener. They made sweet candies and coffee and when it was snowing, there was no better place than Clownous for hot chocolate.

Jose pulled into a parking spot. He told Emma to wait. She did, as he walked to the passenger side to open her door as a gentleman would.

"Thank you, sir," Emma whispered as she stepped out of his 8807 dark gray Chevy Republican. She smiled and grabbed her bag that enheld her laptop. Emma noticed Jose didn't have a bag or something to hold his copy of the homework, realising he hadn't been able to go home yet to get it.

They started to head inside, "why do you always call me sir?" Jose questioned.

"Because I have rules, more laws than you, I'm an illegitimate. While you don't have to call your superiors by sir or ma'am, I do out of respect," she replied opening herself up to him. Superiors would be anyone older than her, even by a day, Emma is to speak to them as sir and ma'am.

"Well, you don't have to call me sir, I don't mind you saying Jose, Em." He opens the café door.

Once inside, Emma headed to her favorite table, the on in the counter by the window far from the cash counter. "Thank you, si- I mean, Jose."

Smiling, she offered to pay but Jose refuses to let a lady pay for his drink. He ordered a mint green coco latte and paid for his own. His latte was minty flavored but had chocolate tasting bliss, of course his colored green. Emma paid for her own as well, she ordered an oceana blue mocha, which was obviously blue and tasted sweet and salty, like how. RealN-ers believed the ocean would taste if war wouldn't have spoiled it with oil and trash.

"You ordered the color of your eyes? They're beautiful... I mean the drink, it's got a beautiful color," hoping she wouldn't have heard him completely but all her attention was in him.

She blushed, "I feel repetitive, but thank you... Now can we get started in the work?" She pulled out her laptop, logged in and had the assignment on screen.

"Mm, to tell you the truth Emma Jones," he smirked, "I suck at the elements as well, maybe we'll be able to help each other."

"Wow," she was still blushing, "maybe we can. So I know the original 118 elements, but the rest are so random, what did our ancestors need with grenisium, or pikinin." Grenisium is the element they made to describe the color green. Pikinin was the day way but with the color pink.

45 MINUTES LATER

They finished the homework as a team, Jose had asked Emma to send him a copy so he could copy their work. They had been with each other since 5:35, and now it was almost 7 o'clock at night. The sun had set.

The conversation was trying to die, even though Jose was always asking Emma what she was smiling about, no matter how many times she responded with, "because this mocha is so good, and look it still matches my eyes." They would break out in smiles when she said that, maybe even a little laughter.

"So before we walked in, you said you were an illegitimate?" Jose said, curious about her.

"Yes, I am. You might know my brothers, the Cole's? Isaac Cole, he's in your grade, and Cody Cole is a freshman. A rule to me says I'm to have no contact with them. I see them everyday in school, I would love to speak to them, but I can't without punishment," Emma said with a sorrow tone.

"Oh, Isaac on the football team? He's an ass, you're not missing too much, and Cody, I don't know much of the freshman, don't really care for them," Jose attempted to make Emma feel better.

"They're still my brothers, they probably don't even care or think about me; I would do anything to protect them even if I landed in juvenile for it. You understand, your sister is Jessica Fuller right?"

"Yes, Jessie is Ronan Ganza's friend. You know Ronan, of course. Roxanna's little brother. You're right too, I would do anything for her. If she, or even me, was an illegitimate, like you, I would still protect her. Maybe I can talk to Isaac for you, he's still an ass, but would you like that?"

"Isaac... Yes, please, to that, I want to see if he's the ass you say he is and to see if my older brother thinks about me. You know, I go to the football games just to see him, and watch him play, every game I've missed, the team has lost. I like to thing I'm the good luck charm he never knew he had. Lol, maybe I can be your secret good luck charm when baseball season starts."

"I wouldn't mind that, my good luck charm to be my girl best friend. Can I call you that? I feel like we're gonna end up being close."

"Yes," Emma replied still blusing as she had all evening, "you may, boy best friend. I feel we are too." Of course, he would never outstand Roxanna. Roxy was there when no one else was.

"Shall we head home? I would hate to keep you out past you illegitimate curfew system. That's about all I know about your rules."

"Oh geez, it's almost 8! You're right, we better go! The lawyers will be making their nightly call soon." Emma put her computer away, "come on, or give me the keys, I need to go!"

They rushed outside to the car, they got in laughing a little but Emma needed to go, now. Before it was too late.

He drove as quick as he could back to her house. With the house keys in hand, Emma was ready to get out of the car, they had 6 minutes to eight. They pulled up with a minute left, "thank you so much, I had a great time, best friend. Goodnight!" Emma exclaimed as she turned and ran to the door to unlock it.

In the rush to open the door, she dropped her laptop, "shit!" As the door finally opened, she could hear the phone ringing already. She left her laptop in the floor and the keys in the door, she ran into the kitchen to answer the phone, the adrenalin was rushing through her veins.

"Hello?" she answered the phone just in time, "Sorry for not answering right away, I was in the restroom."

The lawyers told her they had seen her in Clownous, they knew she lied "You know better than to lie to us, young lady. And that boy...Jose Fuller? You best be careful before you throw your hopes too highly and catch feelings for him. You know the rules Jones, follow them! Tomorrow make sure you're home by the first ring of this phone, goodnight," the lawyer hung up without another word.

Emma texted Jose Thank you again, I made the call just in time. I dropped my laptop in the process but it'll be okay. Good night Jose.

As things seemed to be rushed in their lives together, all in good time would Jose Fuller and Emma Jones change Sweetener. The things that are yet to come, they were setting the tone as best friends, and they would be more as time went on, for simply just friends don't look at each other that way.
