The Fall Has Leaves

The boy kicks the fallen leaves

              (Kicking girl)

              Why no rake?

              Where is the break?

              The leaves crumble

               Some stay on the floor

Too heavy and drained by the concrete

A few flow with the wind

                                   When movement stops,

                                              Lights drop

The leaves parachute from blue to green

                                              The mercury tides await them

The boy watches from a distance

He then looks forward to leaves

Breathing or bleeding

Falling or dancing with the sun's last sparks

They try to keep up with the wind,

But the wind always runs away

Too fast to look back on the past

Only running for more than what it is now and what it could be

The leaves all meet at the same fate

But the train trails and airplane stops

To the giant suburban life

Makes it all refreshing

The sun gives a smile from the back row

The boy looks down

Down at the glimmering cement

He walks with feet backwards

Breathes subconscious fogs

He sees a pebble

And kicks it

It skips out of the road

Gasps out small marbles every tap

He rolls it on his feet

Nothing

Nothing at all

He finally reaches home

Exhausted from the perfect silence

He turns away from the pebble

The boy stares at the house

He decides to catch the wind
