I sniff the air. And already I could smell them.
The savage keepers with their unnatural eyes.
Pacing back and forth across the boarder, watching for movement.
Watching for me to make a move. Something anything.
Just so they could end me and the miserable creature I've become.
Or not.
My lip curls as I sense another movement in the forest, not a keeper, nor an animal.
A person.
I'm on my feet before I knew it, the sensitivity of the forest around me spiking high. Giving my almost a full picture of what exactly was happening. The person was on the run, snapping branches left and right to try and get through. What an idiot.
Suddenly the keepers were on the move, they had seen the damage and were now using the freakish calls to communicate with each other.
Still, I can't say much. My voice box isn't exactly music.
I take a few steps foreward, my senses already tuning in with his breathing and heart rate. He had been running since he got out the gate, wait. Not he.
She.
Stopping I take a deep inhale of the woods, navigating the direction she was in. East moving southward, towards the marsh lands, you get caught up in there its the end. I sigh almost trailing back, she was nothing the keepers couldn't catch.
Her smell, was indifferent though, normal to the others that tried to escape. Soon her steps got more preside, almost calculated. She stopped snapping branches and instead paused to listen.
I could feel her heart thump rapidly. She was scared. Terrified to the core of being caught. Yet her eyes showed determination, something surprising to find in a former captive of the code.
Get over it. She's not her.
I growl and force myself to turn away, I shouldn't even be bothered going outside there again.
"EERRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
The keepers scream forced me to stop. It wasn't of pain. It was of anger. I wanted to run away from whatever made that horrifying sound. She seemed to have the same idea, her body language spelled it right out for me.
'Do I run? or do I risk it?'
She chose to make a break for it. Not bothering to be careful this time, instead taking the rougher path through the trees leading right too...
Me.
'Shit'
I snarl, pacing down towards the edge of the tree line, if she keeps running the way she is. She'll lead those bloody keepers to me and I'll have to move again. I take another inhale as my pacing turns to running, she had stolen a keycard from one of them. Smart, I'll give her that. But stupid overall. Already I could sense the keepers narrowing down her location, giving me not a lot of time to reach her first.
Guess I'll have too, I really have no choice...
Tilting back my head I let out my own call, enough to chill those savages to the bone. At the sound my body began to stretch and pop bigger, weaving through the trees I become what I was created to be.
An eternal.
