Chapter Twelve: It's All About Damon

Elena's POV

I'm in complete shock, what the hell did she mean. Everything around me goes silent and my mind races all over. A faint sound snaps me out of my thoughts. I stare straight into Caroline's blue eyes.

"Elena, are you okay?" 

I ignore her and speed out of the Cafe. Their car is already gone and I'm left standing there, alone. 

"What the hell Elena?" Caroline puts her hand on my shoulder and I jump

"Did you not hear what Katherine said?" I look between her and the empty spot Silas's car was just in moments ago

"Yeah, I heard." 

Without a word, I go straight to the car and get in the driver's seat. Caroline hurries behind me and I pull out of the lot.

"Where are we going?" Caroline asks

"We are going to find Damon and stop him before he gets killed." 

I drive as fast as I can to the Salvatore boarding house, and when I pull into the driveway Damon's car is still there. I shut off the engine and speed straight into the house. As soon as I get in, Stefan sits up on the couch and Qetsityah's head pokes out.

"Have you guys seen Damon?" I ask looking around

"He's not here, he just left. Why?" 

"Katherine... she-sh" I stutter

"What did she do?" He asks worriedly 

"She didn't do anything, but I think Damon has." 

"What does that mean?" Qetsiyah gets off the couch 

"Katherine said that Damon is going to try to kill her tonight and that I should stop him before he is the one who ends up dead. I'm worried about him, Stefan." I look from Qetsiyah to him

"Then we should go. You drive." 

"Wait." Qetsiyah calls from behind us "I'm coming." She starts toward us

"No way, you aren't coming. I don't want you getting hurt." 

"I am one of the strongest traveler witches. I will be fine." She remarks 

"Fine, but promise me that you will be careful." 

"I promise."

"Finally, let's go." I cut through their conversation

Katherine's POV

"Why would you warn her about that? This will be the perfect time to kill him, just the two of us. She is surely going to go to Stefan and Qetsiyah for help."

"That's exactly what I want." I smile

"Katherine, their vampires, and Qetsiyah is a very powerful witch. We wouldn't stand a chance." 

"We are more powerful than all of them combined, especially since we have Nadia. They are the ones who wouldn't stand a chance." I state 

"I'm up for a fight if you are."  

"I was born to fight."  I giggle 

"So what's the plan?" He asks

"Well, Damon won't be coming to the dorm. We are just going to have to go to Mystic Falls, we can call Nadia on the way."

"Why wouldn't he come here?" He asks

"Because Elena is here. Let's go, you drive." I toss Silas the keys

We go to make our way out and I hear a knock on the door. I open it and there stands Elena, Caroline, Stefan, and Qetsiyah.

"Good. You guys are safe." Elena breathes out 

"We were about to go get some food." Silas says from behind me

"You guys can't leave. Damon wouldn't be dumb enough to come here." 

"I know. But I'm hungry and so is Silas, so if you will excuse us." I walk between Caroline and Elena

"Katherine, please. At least come stay with us that way if Damon comes after you we can-" She starts to plead but I cut her off

"You can what? Protect me? Please, Elena. You and I both know that if Damon tries to kill me and I protect myself you wouldn't hesitate to kill me. I have made nice with you, but if Damon comes after me, I will kill him and I will kill anyone who tries to stop me. I want to co-exist, I do, get Damon on board." 

I try to keep walking when Stefan calls my name.

"Katherine, at least come and stay with us. We can all convince Damon that you aren't a threat and that it's okay to forgive you."

I walk up to him and we are nearly face to face. I bring my hand up to his cheek and place it lightly on his face.

"My sweet, innocent, Stefan. I don't need his forgiveness, I need him to make me not kill him. I don't want to. If anyone can convince him, it's you." I remove my hand and walk away, Silas walking up to my left side.

"Let's go get something to eat." He holds his hand out to me and I grab it and intertwine our fingers 

Elena's POV

"Well, that was, interesting." Qetsiyah breaks the silence 

I give her a 'really' look.

"What? Did anyone else not notice them holding hands?" She asks

"Seriously, that's what you got out of that?" Caroline asks

"No, but I think it's important." She mumbles the last part

"I have a question. If you knew he wasn't going to be here, then why did we drive all this way?" Stefan questions 

"I don't know, all I do know is that we need to find him and quick. Katherine is serious about co-existing." I speak

"And Damon is in the way of that. If he does anything to her, she will kill him, I don't doubt that." 

"Wait, if she really wants to co-exist then why would she kill Damon?" Qetsiyah chimes back in

"It's what she does Qetsiyah, she will always protect herself, no matter what obstacles come her way." 

"Instead of having this conversation in the middle of the Dorms we should be looking for Damon." I walk off and they all follow behind

"I wasn't seeing things was I?" I hear Qetiyah whisper behind me

"No, I saw it too. Looks like we were wrong. There is definitely something going on between them." Stefan replies

Caroline cuts into their conversation.

"They seem to genuinely like each other." 

After 2 hours of looking for Damon, we make it back to the boarding house. We walk in and Silas and Katherine are sitting on the couch. They stand up as soon as we walk inside. I get closer and notice that Damon is laying on the ground.

"Oh my God." I run over to him

"I didn't kill him. Well technically." Katherine says

"What do you mean technically?" I look over at her

"Meaning, I snapped his neck." 

We all look in the direction and we see Nadia. 

"Look, it's a long story. We don't have much time. Please, sit."
