Ikari

The sharp shing of a sword through the air, and the woosh of magic rings though the small valley. The hot sun glares down a me and another figure as we battle in the summer flowers.

I duck below Tamashi's blade as he swings it at me in his human form. Countering, I swiftly grab his still outstretched arm and use it to swing myself underneath it and behind him. I kick him in the back with both feet as hard as I can, landing on my hands, I back-handspring to my feet as he stumbles forward. My goal today is to defeat him without unsheathing any of my weapons other than magic, just in case I lose those somehow in a real battle.

I try to keep myself well rounded with magic and hand to hand combat. I suppose I'm a bit paranoid.

Tamashi throws his long-sword away in the grass and spins around on his heel to face me, regaining his balance effortlessly. Smirking, his eyes and long, spiky hair, which constantly change color, turn bright orange like flames before he shouts his spell: "Soul Element: Fire Dragon mode!"

Now, his magic is set primarily in the fire element, increasing his magical power for that element. I personally can't do fire magic, at all, but I'm very good at water, earth, and air, also known as Aqua, Terra, and Sky dragon slayer magic. This should be interesting.

You would think a battle between a little girl and a dragon would be unfair, but Tamashi would never intentionally harm me. He gives me a chance.

Flames surround Tamashi's fists as he launches an attack. "Fire Dragon: Iron Fist!"

I am not surprised since he almost always uses fire against me, pain in the rear. Really, I'm only eight, well, almost, tomorrow is my birthday!

This training battle lasts several more minutes. Tamashi is dripping with a light sheen of sweat, as am I, although I haven't used an ounce of magical energy and have only hit him a few times. Dodging gets exhausting after awhile, especially when your opponent is a dragon.

I turn sideways just in the nick of time to dodge yet another attack, sending Mashi hurdling past my tiny body. I stumble backwards slightly, "don't get distracted little one" he says, are you going to stay on defense the whole time? Too afraid to attack me because you know I'll still win?" he taunts me with a smirk.

"I'll show you dragon breath!"I shout at Mashi, eyes turning orange with my frustration. "here's one I've been working on..."

"Terqua Dragon: Mudslide!"

A ten foot tall magic circle with a mix of swirling light blue patterns and rich, dark brown appears in front of me. From the circle, a huge geyser of boiling hot, dark brown mud mixed with a shiny metallic orange from my angry use of magic shoots at Tamashi, burying him alive.

The entire small meadow is burnt to a crisp, the previously brilliant green grass and vibrant, colorful wildflowers are now a blackened carpet covering the earth. On top to that carpet, a thick brown, slick coat of mud covers the ground, no longer glistening orange.

"Uh oh, we overdid it AGAIN!"

The mud pile shifts slightly as Mashi moves within its depths. A large, bright pink hand breaks the surface. Gasping, Mashi's face soon follows. Mashi emerges from the mud slowly, body covered in blistering burns.

"I'm so sorry Mashi, I didn't mean to hurt you!!" I frantically say. Usually these training exercises don't end in either of us being hurt, in fact, they were very slow for the first two years. I guess I've gotten a lot stronger.
