Lillian bit her lip, avoiding eye contact with Dean as she carefully stitched up the cut on his forehead. He flinched as she jerked the floss to cut it, walking away from him. "What's got you so upset, Lil? It's not like this is the first time I've taken a hit."

The instant she spun to show him her eyes that flashed with anger, he knew he had asked the wrong question. "No. No, it isn't. It's not the first time I've patched you up either. Because that's my job. Patch up the boys and keep them fed right?" Before Dean could protest, she threw hands up as if in defeat. "How very archaic!"

"Hey! Hey! Woah!" Dean stood, trying to hold her still. She growled, pushing him away from her with a scream.

"No! No! Stop that! That's what you all do and it's not okay! I can hunt better than any of you and you make me sit here and wait to patch you up and feed you every freaking time! It is beyond not okay Dean and I'm tired of it!" She crossed her arms, stepping away from him as he groaned in frustration. As much as they bickered, they hardly ever truly fought. Seeing her truly angry at him was shocking and made his chest tight with guilt. For Lillian to truly be angry with him meant he had royally screwed up.

"Okay! I'm sorry! What can I do Lil?" He moved down, looking her in the eyes to allow her to see his desperation was in earnest. "Please, I just want to fix this."

She sighed, shaking her head slowly as she sank into a seat. "There's only one way to fix it, Dean."

He grinned, not even pausing to think about what could appease her. So he might have to spend all his hustling money on popcorn and movie rentals. At least she would be her usual, happy self again. "Name it."

"You take me with you next time." Instantly Dean pulled back, shaking his head as all thoughts of appeasing her vanished.

"Nope that's out of the question, sweetheart. You're just-"

She cut him off with a raised hand. "Dean Winchester if you say not experienced enough so help me I will stab you." Dean paled, knowing that she meant it. He might not want her hunting, but the girl was trained well and would have no qualms about making Sammy stitch him up later.

"I was gonna say too precious!" He corrected himself, taking a step back. "None of us wants you getting hurt."

"And I don't want you getting hurt but you don't see me stopping you!" She stepped closer, not breaking eye contact with him as she pleaded.

Dean paused before responding, taking in the desperation in his friend's eyes. She had been stuck at Bobby's quite a bit recently and he knew it must be driving her mad. Lillian wasn't the kind of person who enjoyed being indoors 24/7. She didn't enjoy sitting still. She was at her best when she was on a hunt and Dean knew it. Besides, no matter what he did, she would always be a hunter. She had killed a demon at thirteen for crying out loud. "Okay," he whispered, hating himself for it. "Next hunt, you're with me, kid." Instantly, the oldest Winchester was tackled in a hug that sent him stumbling backward. He laughed, scooping her up in his arms and spinning her in circles as she squealed.

As he took in the happy moment, the dark thought crept into his mind that if anything happened to her, this would be the moment he would remember most. The moment he gave his best friend permission to get killed. As he watched her take off down the stairs to tell his brother though, he couldn't help but smile. He made up his mind that he would just have to protect her, no matter the cost.

Lillian smirked from her spot sitting on one of the two single beds in the poorly decorated motel room. Dean sat on the couch, his knees curled up so his head could rest on them and his hazel eyes narrow as he glared at his best friend. "You took my spot," he growled, feigning anger. He was already regretting letting her come along and his regret was growing more by the minute.
