A/N: Okay so this was an interesting chapter to write. The first part is the fluff I have just absolutely been dying to write. More comments at the end.
"This is insanity," Lillian sighed, staring up at Dean. She was stretched out across the couch, her head comfortably positioned in his lap. To everyone's relief, Ellen had passed the holy water test. She had also been able to provide key information on the plans of the yellow-eyed demon, courtesy of a trail let by Ash. Even though she'd never doubted her departed friend's skills, she had been shocked by the scale of what he had uncovered. This plan dated back to the days of Samuel Colt, for goodness' sake. It was huge and had never been uncovered by a hunter before.
"I know," her best friend sighed, gently running his fingers through her hair. "If you'd told me a year ago that we were going to storm a mile-wide devils trap to keep the gates of hell closed, I never would have believed you."
"No one would have." She stared at him, once again stunned by the beauty of those bright green eyes. They were so calming. So peaceful.
"Hey, so..." The redhead's heart skipped a beat as he started to speak. Her stomach churned as she realized what he was about to say. "When you were..." He shuddered. "Well, y'know... You said you loved me."
"Oh," she sighed, trying to force her voice to remain normal. She sat up, shifting to continue looking at him. "Yeah, I mean it's kind of obvious isn't it?"
He stared. "Oh. So you just meant like in the 'I love Sammy kind of way?'"
She hesitated. This was it. This was her chance out. He'd given it to her of his own free will. A way to escape what she thought would be a dying declaration. She stared into those beautiful green eyes again, mind working a hundred miles an hour. She could lose him over this. She could lose her best friend.
But there was a chance.
A chance to have something more.
A chance not to have to hide her feelings.
A chance for her to have her best friend know.
Before it was too late.
And she wasn't about to miss her chance.
"No," she whispered. "No, that's not how I meant it at all." His eyes went wide, surprised by her declaration. "I'm sorry. I know you gave me an out just now, but you know I can't just-"
Before she could finish, Dean leaned forward, pressing her lips to his. For a moment she tensed, surprised by the action, but she soon leaned into the kiss. "Wow..." he gasped when they pulled back. "Okay, so... Wasn't expecting this."
Lillian laughed. "Um, yeah I think that's an understatement. For a moment the two were lost in the moment, the world around them fading away as they stared into each other's eyes. "So... What does this mean, exactly?" When he made a face, she rushed to continue. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry I just don't want to kiss and leave it there and-"
He chuckled, eyes sparkling as she stuttered to a stop. The hunter grabbed her hand. "It means if we survive all this... Chaos... We need to have a talk."
The redhead nodded. "Okay. Okay." She hesitated. "Is it gonna be weird now if I put my head back in your lap because it's like really comfortable."
Dean shrugged, still laughing. "Not at all."
As she laid back down, she felt his hand reach for hers, giving her a reassuring squeeze as she closed her eyes. "You know I'm still mad at you?" she whispered half-heartedly, already feeling herself drifting off to sleep.
