This is based off the song Marry Me by Thomas Rhett.

Evan POV

"Are you excited?" Tyler asked me.

"For what?" I asked.

"The wedding, dude." Marcel butted in.

"Oh... yeah." I answered.

I still couldn't believe that this is actually going to happen. My best friend since childhood announced not too long ago that she had gotten engaged.

She wants to get married, she wants it perfect
She wants her granddaddy preaching the service
And she wants magnolias out in the country
Not too many people, save her daddy some money
Ooh, she got it all planned out
Yeah, I can see it all right now

I would be lying if I said that I wasn't a little jealous of the fact that she was getting married to someone else. Just thinking about it made tears come to my eyes.

"Hey guys, I gotta go." I spoke up.

"Alright, bud." Daithi said. "See you at the wedding."

A part of me wanted to stay home so I wouldn't have to see my best friend get married to someone, but I knew that she would want me to be there. So I got everything ready for the trip.

I'll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back
I'll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yeah, she wanna get married
But she don't wanna marry me

I got onto my flight and put on my headphones. I needed to get my feelings under control before I got to the wedding. Thinking about my feelings made me remember the time I almost kissed her.

Flashback

We were around fifteen and I invited (y/n) over to my house. I somehow convinced her to watch a scary movie with me. During the movie, she would jump and cling onto my arm. When she first grabbed my arm, I looked down at her and she looked up at me. She looked so beautiful and innocent. I could barely stop myself from kissing her.

Present Day

I sighed. The moment was long gone now.

I remember the night when I almost kissed her
Yeah, I kinda freaked out, we've been friends for forever
And I'd always wonder if she felt the same way
When I got the invite, I knew it was too late
And I know her daddy's been dreading this day
Oh, but he don't know he ain't the only one giving her away

I reached the hotel room and emptied my bag. I looked at my suit that I had picked out just for (y/n)'s wedding. I took in a deep breath. I can make it through this, for (y/n).

I'll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back
I'll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yeah, she wanna get married
But she don't wanna marry me

I got into the Uber and gave him the address. My mind wandered all around. I bet she's going to look absolutely stunning in her dress. I bet she's greeting everyone and wondering when her best friend was gonna get there. I really wanted to tell her how I've felt all these years, but I don't want to mess up her perfect day.

Bet she got on her dress now
Welcoming the guest now
I could try to find her
Get it off of my chest now
But I ain't gonna mess it up
So I wish her the best now

I sat in the back while the rest of our friends sat closer. I quickly drank some whiskey as I heard the music pick up.

So I'm in my black suit, black tie, hiding out in the back
Doing a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yeah, she wanna get married
Yeah, she gonna get married
But she ain't gonna marry me

I wiped a few stray tears that fell from my eyes as they both said 'I do'. Now they're sharing a passionate kiss, one that I was too afraid to give her. I walked outside to catch my breath. Unbeknownst to me, Tyler followed me.

"What's wrong, dude?" He asked.

I let out a shaky breath and wiped my eyes.

"Nothing." I answered.

"You just walked out of your best friend since childhood's wedding. Don't tell me it's nothing." Tyler argued.

"I love her." I whispered. "I have since we were kids. I know I should be happy for her, but I just can't."

"Dude, just because she's happy with him doesn't mean she will stop loving and caring about you." Tyler said. "She wants her best friend to be happy for her on her special day."

"I want her to be happy. I want to be happy, too. And for some reason, I can't imagine that happening without (y/n)." (REFERENCES) I explained.

Tyler sighed and walked inside, leaving me alone with my sorrow.

Whoa, but she ain't gonna marry me, no
