When I was a child I use to wonder why I didn't have a mother. I was told stories about her and told that she loved me dearly, but I never knew why she wasn't in my life.

"Daddy why don't I have a mommy?" I asked at the age of six.

Many days I wish I hadn't of asked about her, but I knew from the look on my father's face..... he wished she was there with us.

"You do have a mommy, but.... we can't see her I'm afraid." He said softly.

"Why?" I asked confused.

"Because the king doesn't like humans.... and your mommy is one."

"So I'm a half breed?"

"Yes, but don't worry. One day the true king will come and we will get to see her once more, but for now we must hide the fact that you are a half breed from them." He said softly.

If there was one thing I hated most about my life it was that I was forced to lie to not only all of Atlantis, by to the people I grew up with.

"Alright let's go and train with Arthur." He said as he patted my shoulder.

We soon made it to the surface world and I watched my father and Arthur train.

"Hey Alana want to train with me?" Arthur asked as he put his trident down.

"No I have to study. I will in a few." I said calmly.

"What are you studying for?" He asked as he plopped down beside me.

"I'm studying to make sure I know everything about Atlantis... and about the surface world." I explained.

"Don't worry.... it will be fine. How about I show you around sometime." He said happily.

"Father would that be alright?" I asked softly.

"How about we wait a year and then I'll let you go." He said with a smile.

A year later I was able to go into town with Arthur. As we walked I looked around and smiled as I ate with him. So nwe made our way back to the beach and I accidentally bumped into a woman. I looked up at her to say sorry and froze.

"Sorry about my friend. She isn't really use to people." Arthur said softly.

"It's fine. I'm Jane. What are your names?" She asked with a smile.

"I'm Arthur and this is-"

I cut him off by running away. I took off running until I made it to the docks.

"Alana! Slow down!" He yelled as he followed me.

"Tell my father I went home." I said as I jumped into the water.

When I made it home I felt tears stream down my face as I hid under my covers. My father soon returned home and set on the bed beside me.

"I saw her.... I bumped into her." I whispered through tears.

"Arthur told me. It's going to be alright my love... I promise one day you will get to see her and not have to run." He said as he pulled me into a hug.

After awhile I calmed down and left to see Orm. When I arrived at our secret hideout I saw him crafting a dagger.

"What's that for?" I asked a so set beside him.

"You.... it isn't much, but I wanted to get you a birthday gift." He said softly.

"I actually forgot today was my birthday." I said as he handed it to me.

"I didn't..... I'll never forget." He said softly.

"Thank you. This has made my day a lot better." I said as I kissed his cheek.

"It was nothing.... I just like to make you smile." He said softly.

I nodded my head and then we set down and looked up.

"So what do you think it will be like when you become King?" I asked softly.

"Hopefully I can fix our world." He said softly.

"Why does it need to be fixed?" I asked confused.

"Because the surface world is attacking us. They pollute our waters and kill our animals." He said softly.

"They don't know that they are hurting us... they don't know we exist." I said softly.

"Well one day they will.... I can promise you that." He said softly.

I nodded my head and laid back down beside him. Not long after that day his mother was sentenced to be sacrificed to the trench.

The day after Atlanna was sacrificed I was swimming when I heard someone crying. I swam towards it to see Orm with his knees to his chest. I moved over to him and gently hugged him.

"I can't believe she is gone." He whispered.

"I am so sorry Orm.... I wish I could take all this pain away." I whispered as I hugged him.

He hugged me back and cried into my shoulder as I patted his back.

After that day I became closer with Orm and we told each other everything, almost everything. I had never hated being a halfbreed more in my life then when I was with Orm and I listened to him tell me about how much he hated his older brother.
