It was silent for a few seconds before Minho burst out laughing.

"What's so funny?!" She yelled at him.

"This is serious!"

Minho looked at her, still laughing. "I think your nerves got to you. There is no way the creators would actually do that."

Bree raised her eyebrow. "You know they put us in a big maze to survive, right?"

Minho stopped laughing. "I still think it's ridiculous."

"You're ridiculous." She shot back.

"Hey, everyone just take it easy, ok?" Newt cut in.

"You two are acting like children. Bree, maybe you were just seeing things. Minho, maybe Bree is right. We don't know." Alby said.

"I know." Bree countered.

"How come you won't believe me?"

Alby sighed, "I just don't know what to believe right now."

"He believes me!" Minho said.

"You were attacked by a griever a few weeks ago, you just got scared and imagined it!"

Bree shook her head violently- which kind of hurt.

"I'm not making this up! Why would I? The thing had Mike in its teeth! It was the same thing that was eating vines and making that weird moaning sound!" Bree yelled.

"No- I know you're making this up!" Minho yelled back.

"You're in denial! You don't want to believe there are other things out there- but there are!" She yelled at him.

"I am not! You're just making everything harder on yourself. Wake up to reality, Bree! Nothing is out there besides grievers." He said.

"You're wrong!" She yelled.

"You're all wrong, and someday I'll prove it too, you little-" Newt cut her off.

"Bree, let's go take a walk, okay?" He said with intense calmness as he grabbed her arm and pulled her out of the room.

He dragged her down the hall and out of the homestead without saying anything.

They got to the wall and started walking the perimeter of the glade slowly.

After a few minutes Bree spoke up, now a little more calm.

"You believe me, right?" She said quietly, not even wanting to try and argue with him.

Newt sighed deeply.

"It's hard to tell." He said.

Bree sighed too. "I know, it sounds crazy.. And I'm the only one who saw it.. Besides Mike anyway.. But.. If you just saw it.."

Newt shook his head. "I can't go out there, even if I was allowed."

"Why?" Bree asked.

Newt pulled on her arm to make her stop walking and he stopped and faced her.

"Have you ever noticed my limp?" He asked her.

Now that he mentioned it, Bree really never had noticed Newt had a limp.

Maybe it's because you're to busy looking at his face.

Her mind mocked her.

She told herself to shut up and stopped thinking about it.

"Honestly.. Not really, no." She said.

Newt pursed his lips. "Well, I used to be a runner. I hurt it trying to get away from a griever. My leg hasn't been the same since... I've never been back in the maze."
