New Year's Eve
A day and a half had passed since her night out with Josh. The pair never texted after but she filled Sade in on what happened.
"Look girl I love you and all but don't even think about it."
"I'm trying not to," Val sighed. "But why?"
"Musicians never work out." She softly shrugged, remembering her own experience. "Also think of her." She said with clear distaste refraining from saying Emily's name. "I'm just trying to protect you okay? I wouldn't want you to get hurt, you've already been through so much and I can't imagine adding heartbreak but I also don't control you. What I will say is what you choose is what you choose and all I can do is offer support."
"Why are crushes so fucking hard?" Val groaned as she threw herself into her pillows, regretting what she said.
"Because life doesn't want us to have it easy for once." Sade joked, trying to lighten the mood. "You'll figure everything soon, don't worry babes."
The day had been spent cleaning around the house, the group deciding to celebrate over at the girls' place. Val's father decided he would stay home once again to which Val didn't mind, understanding.
The brothers were on supply duty as Danny stayed to help the girls out, someone had to be able to reach the top of things.
"How many people are showing up again?" Val knelt down getting the speaker plugged in and ready, random lights flashing in front ready for whoever plugged in.
"I think Jake invited some of our old friends, so I dunno, might be a full house??" Sade said more as a question as she moved the coffee table, making space for the dancing that was sure to happen.
"Word travels fast so I wouldn't be surprised if even the friends' friends bring their own."Val groaned, throwing her head back. "Does that mean there's a possibility I'll see frozen vomit out on the yard? How great." She rolled her eyes with sarcasm as Sade chuckled.
"I see them pulling up!" Danny popped his head out of the kitchen passthrough window, two short honks coming from outside.
"We're here bitches!" A voice yelled out, most likely Jake. The trio walked out as Sammy popped the trunk open, pulling out bags.
"Jesus how much fucking liquor did you buy?" Sade's jaw dropped at the boxes being brought in.
"I'm here for a fun time not a long time." Jake simply answered as he picked up two 12 packs, walking inside.
"The trunk isn't going to empty itself, hurry!" Josh pushed as he tried to carry as many bags as he could.
The other three immediately went to help, Val shaking her head at how much they had brought. She made eye contact with Josh sending him a tight grin. They didn't talk much, Josh still feeling awkward about what happened.
"So how have you been Valencia?" Jake turned his head to quickly look at her as he brought boxes, setting them stacked on the kitchen floor, Val mimicking with her bags on the counter.
"Decent. You?"
"Ready to party." He smirked.
