"I will tell you everything. You deserve to know. (signed)". Caspian propped himself up with a pillow. "I haven't always been deaf. (signed)"."I just assumed that you were born like that... (signed)"."
" I thought that you probably had but, I became deaf when I was nearing the age of twelve. From the age of nine til twelve, was the most terrifying and lonely time of my life. I thought that I was being punished for being ill. But, of course, I was silly and immature. I shouldn't have blamed anyone or anything for my illness and the consequence of it. (signed)".
"You were ill? (signed)".
"Yes, and it turns out that I still am. I'm not strong enough for sport anymore. I'm sorry, but my health just won't allow me... I thought that maybe, I was finally strong enough; that I could finally be free from the disease wrapped around me. However, that isn't the case. So, please understand that the reason why I collapsed at the party wasn't because of Aston. Although, he pushed me; I collapsed because of my health, as I still am haunted by this childhood nightmare. (signed)".
"Right... (signed)". I remained numb from any kind of emotion. "So, you've forgiven him? (signed)".
"Yes, I have... I should have told you this all before now. I really am sorry. But it finally felt like someone was treating me as if I was normal. (signed)".
"Are you kidding me Caz?! Are either of us normal? Actually, is anyone normal? What the heck, even is normal?! (signed)".
"Thanks, Sam. (signed)".
It's felt like forever since anyone has called me Sam...
That name feels far away, as if it's been locked into a fictional book with copyright written all over it.
Samuel Park. That's not my name anymore.
It doesn't belong to me.
"Don't forget that name Eddy; it's the one your mother gave you, so you have no right to forget it. (signed)".
"That's true... (signed)". I sat there in a haze; any excitement I had, before I got here, is long gone.
"I shouldn't have brought that up. Wasn't there something else you needed to talk to me about? (signed)".
"Yes. Your dad visited the mansion a couple of evenings ago- (signed)".
"I know. Father spoke to me last night, asking if the arrangement was alright with me. Don't worry, it's fine. (signed)".
"But, surely you want to be the only CEO of your dad's company; it's not right that the position should go to me as well. (signed)".
"Ed, from the moment dad asked me to befriend you, I knew that he wanted me to familiarize you with the world of fashion. And I was correct in assuming that he has a plan of his own. (signed)".
So, he didn't choose to become friends with me? He was forced? Is it still the same now?! No, that can't be right.
"And look at you now! (signed)". Caz continued. "A very unique, outdoor outfit... I must say. But, ten points for creativity! (signed)". Sarcasm spread mischievously across his face. I was still in my pajamas.
No, Caspian is a true, genuine friend.
It may not have been friendship by choice at first, but it is now.
