"Have you heard?" A maid in the Morinozuka household gossiped to another maid as she folded a sweater neatly.

"The whole Tsubasa family has been murdered!"

"The Tsubasa family? The one skilled in weapons?"

"Yes, that's the one. They were killed, mostly stabbed, and poor little Yukianna had her chest slashed open! But you know, they say that one of their daughters, Carala, might still be alive, along with their eldest son, Caden!"

"That's unlikely. Just a rumour."

Takashi Morinozuka, twelve years old, listened to the maids chatter as they got him dressed. Even back then, he had a constant poker face, but in his head, he was worried about the little Tsubasa.

"Young Master, Young Master Haninozuka is here. He says he would like to play with you outside." A butler said, bowing as he entered the room.

"Okay. Tell him I'll be out with him soon." Takashi blinked, trying to use as few words as possible.

"Come on, Takashi!" Mitsukuni dragged him along the streets. "Let's go play by the fence! Whoever balances longest wins!"

"...That could lead to injuries. Mother will be mad at us again." Takashi said, but allowing himself to be led by the much shorter boy.

All of a sudden, Mitsukuni stopped. Takashi almost tripped over him but caught himself just in time. Confused, Takashi looked at the direction his cousin was facing. His dark eyes widened.

A small girl that looked ten years old was lying on her side, blood splattered all over her thin white dress, and blood was seeping through the dress from her back. Her face looked hot and feverish, and her eyes were closed with beads of sweat on her forehead.

"A-Are you okay?!" Mitsukuni ran towards her.

"Help me carry her.." Takashi lifted the girl up. She was very light, and he could feel the wet blood getting onto his clothes, but he ignored it. Saving this little girl's life was more important.

Mitsukuni helped Takashi piggy-back the little girl by carefully holding onto her sides to make sure she didn't fall off to Takashi's house, since it was the closest and both his parents were home.

The maids gasped in horror when they saw the state she was in, and hurried the unknown girl into a nearby room, cleaning and putting bandages on her wounds.

After what seemed like hours, Takashi was let in. Mitsukuni had gone to inform Takashi's father what had happened, so he entered alone. He sat beside her on the couch.

She was covered in a thick blanket, but Takashi could still see traces of bandages that were coming up from her back to her shoulder. Her eyes were still closed, and her face was still a bit red, but she seemed to be breathing evenly.

He was just about to doze off when an unfamiliar high voice spoke. "Where am I?"

Takashi opened his eyes in bewilderment. She was awake, and her dark amber eyes were staring at him with a clouded look. He reached out to feel her forehead, but she immediately drew back, and Takashi suddenly felt ashamed for scaring her.

"I won't hurt you. I just want to see if you're better yet." He said, looking into her scared amber eyes. His hand slowly reached for her forehead, as if he was approaching a wild animal. The black haired girl flinched a bit, but she didn't move back again.

Takashi almost sighed in relief. Her fever had lowered.

"You're in the Morinozuka Estate. What's your name?" Takashi asked.

"....Te- Carala Tsubasa."
