Saying those words he fell in love with a human so deeply.
Such goes the Bakeneko's story.
Tears stained her cheeks.
The bakeneko watched outside his window. She had lost her lover in an accident, and now spent everyday crying.
It hurt him. She had fallen in love with her smile and unique nature.
He was a bakeneko. He could fix this.
"To bring back your smile, his form and life I will assume." He whispered at night, to the full moon that was listening.
The next day, he knocked on her door.
She answered. Her eyes widened as tears started to fall.
"T..Taka.." She stuttered.
"Carala..!" Takashi hugged him tightly. "I'm sorry..I'll never leave your side, I promise."
Ah dear god above.
Just how cruel was I, my love?
"I'm sorry..I think I hit my head, and I don't remember much.." Takashi scratched his head.
"That's fine! It'll all come back eventually if you stay in a familiar place!" Carala reassured him, laughing, and he smiled.
That was a lie. But he would not hesitate to do it, if it were for her.
Weeks passed. The two enjoyed many happy days together.
One night, Carala walked towards Takashi. "Hey Taka..I wonder if you ever realized.."
"What is it?" Takashi asked.
"His eyes..they were a pale green. Your eyes..they're dark grey." Carala's voice shook. "But..that's okay.."
Takashi clenched his teeth, but he was still trembling when he looked up at her.
Carala hugged him tightly. "I beg of you please never leave me.." She cried, tears running down her cheeks.
Ah dear god above.
Is this my punishment, my love?
Suddenly Takashi's disguise started to fade.
"Wha..?!" Carala looked up in surprise as cat ears sprouted at the top of his head.
He opened his mouth, trying to make a sound, but he couldn't speak this foreign human language.
He ran away, as a cat. But as he ran, he heard Carala's broken, sobbing voice call after him.
"Thank you for everything!" She cried, collapsing to her knees.
He sat under a bush, hating himself.
"But look at me and all the wrong that I have done to you." He whispered. "Please tell me that you hate me too."
