It was pouring, in New York almost all the time, much like tonight. I forgot my umbrella today and it started up when I was studying. I'm almost done with law school, but the studying got most of my time up, that and actually going to school. When I wasn't doing that, I was still getting over Laurens.
I loved him, he let me go, and never tried to get me back. I knew he was back from his deployment and now working as a nurse in the E.R. It took almost a year for him to even talk to me. It was painful and awkward, but we managed to handle it like adults. He finally told me why, but I still hate him for that. We finally got back to just 'friends'. Even though we were okay, Lafayette and Hercules still wondered. They keep asking me when I'm gonna get him, but I need to move on. At least that's what John said. I always seem to find something to remind me of him.Lafayette and Hercules had started their own relationship. They often had dinner with me. Just to catch up, see what was going on in our lives. I barely got any time to see my friends with school and studying.
Right now I was typing a text to John, but I regretted it and undid it.Falling back into this new found habit. I just couldn't get myself to do it, so I just waited for something to happen.I was outside waiting for a bus or taxi, but it had been an hour now. I looked down to my phone looking for a reply, but got nothing. I sighed and turned off my phone, still looking at the ground. I heard something from someone, so I looked up and I saw someone standing in front of me.
"Why are you out here this late, in this weather?"
"Waiting for a ride."
"How about I take you inside, then your place."
"Sure?.."
I didn't know this man, but he seemed nice, really rich. He wore a trench coat and what looked like a suit.
"You want a coffee?"
"Yes, please.''
"How do you like it?"
"Black..."
"Same."
"Funny. I don't know many people who like their coffee like that."
"Well, then you must not get out much."
"Too busy studying and going to school."
"Oh, what for?"
"Law."
"Oh, law student? How funny..."
"How so?"
"I'm looking for an intern who studied or is currently studying law."
"Oh, what business?"
"Jefferson Co., you may have heard about it.."
"Cool..."
We moved inside the coffee place and I went to sit down at a table for two.
"I'll get the coffee then."
"Alright."
He then went to order the coffee. I looked down at my phone again and it looked like me and John were in another fight. I didn't even write a word. So, I ignored it and looked back up, he stood over by waiting for the second coffee. I should just move on from John, what if this is something here. He's nice and got money clearly.
"Here you go."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
"So, what's your name?"
"Thomas Jefferson."
"Thom... wait that Thomas Jefferson!"
"Yeah... I get that a lot." He rubbed his neck.
" I'm Alexander Hamilton. My friends call me Alex."
"So, is that an invitation?" He looked at me with a face, flirting with me.
"I guess, up to you." My tone began to follow his.
"Well, then I might just have to take it."
"You're more than welcome too."
