"Alright students, I'm sure you guys have had enough time thinking about your hero names and since you graduate in a month, any changes need to be logged before then," Midnight said drearily, "so you have multiple opportunities to change your names this month but they need to be submitted before graduation, do I have any takers?" She said looking around the room. The class murmured and looked too, Katsuki looked too, silently hoping someone would. "Anyone?" He sighed, closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. The whole class gasped as the sound of a chair scraping the floor broke the murmurs. He opened his eyes and everyone's were on him, he had his hand raised and had stood up. He looked through the class, seeing Kirishima, Kaminari, Mina and Sero grinning at him. He kept scanning until he saw the brown eyes he hoped would be looking. She gave him a soft smile and nodded.
"I would like to," he said, looking Midnight in the eye.
"Al-alight Bakugou, the stage is yours," she said gesturing to the podium. She was as shocked as everyone else. He scoffed and walked up to the podium with his whiteboard. He stood at the podium and wrote down his name suggestion. He was nervous and unsure. Everyone had a negative image of him, save for the five students he'd become close to in the past three years. He looked up at the class, everyone stared at him as if he were an animal. He knew that he was a wild card. He knew why people were scared of him, and since he realized that he did have someone who actually would care for him, someone who would've loved him regardless, he started to soften a bit.Yeah, he had Kirishima, and he was a great friend, and strangely unaffected by his rudeness. He first chalked it up to his stupidity and at first, that seemed the case, since the dumb bug zapper treated him the same way and the alien and tape boy but soon he realized that Kirishima wanted to be his friend because he could see through his mask. Though he'd never admit it, he was truly grateful for the band of idiots that followed him around. Katsuki and Kirishima seemed to get a lot of female attention too, mostly from the girls in younger grades and strangers who didn't even know who they were. Katsuki couldn't understand why it bugged him, Kirishima chalked it up to him being awkward around girls, but it wasn't the case. He'd been intimate with a girl before, friendly, he might've even fallen for her if his string hadn't been established soon after he got to know her, he felt it was something else. After a while he realized he didn't know who he was, and if he didn't, then how could they 'love' him as they said. So he set out to do so. And he did, when he started having suspicions about his string, and who she was. He started coming into himself more and then he found it. The name he wanted to be known as. It wasn't fancy or pretentious, it was simple but it rang out to him. He'd never mentioned it to anyone, he had told Ochaco that he wanted to get a hero name. He took a deep breath and picked up the whiteboard.
"I'd like my hero name to be Bakushinchi" he held up the whiteboard with the characters "爆心地" on it. It was simple. It just meant ground zero or hypocenter, he didn't want the English version, it sounded too predictable. He also liked the way it sounded. It had part of his name in it, which he liked. However, no sooner he spoke the class collectively gasped, and murmured to themselves. He frowned and scoffed, turning his head away. It hurt that people reacted the way they did. He put his whiteboard down and clenched his fist. He wanted people to like it, he didn't know why, but he'd been wanting to be one of the class, have a place, where people understood his methods. He blamed the whole feeling on Ochaco. She made him want to try.
"Well personally, I like it," a female voice rang out. He shot his head up and saw the girl without a face standing. He was shocked that she would stand up.
"I do too, it's unique," a familiar voice spoke up, he looked in her direction. She smiled at him and he felt his cheeks heat up. And then another girl cheered.
"Woohoo! Great name!" Mina hollered as she jumped from her seat.
"Very you," Jirou smiled standing up too. Asui and Yaoyorozu stood up too and gave their praise.
"Yeah, well done bro," Kirishima stood up as well and soon so did the rest of the idiots. He felt himself smile slightly as the rest of the class pitched in, in some way.
"Alright well it's better your previous suggestions," Midnight started, "and the class doesn't seem to hate it, so I guess it's approved, well done Bakugou." He nodded and he went back to his seat. He was the only one who stood up to the name change offer, so Midnight moved on, starting with the actual lesson. He felt a prickle on his arm and he looked down at it instinctively.
