) chapter 7. (
MONTHS pass and the preparations of the royal wedding of Joffrey and Margaery are making real progress. Lady Tyrell is often on the way with Lady Olenna and Margaery, Laeherys following in their shadows, for a wedding dress or decorations. The handmaiden did not even know where Lord Tyrell was, but her loyalty doesn't lay with the Lord of Highgarden. Her loyalty is only with his wife.
Ever since she was lost in King's Landing Lady Tyrell had ordered her to stay in the Red Keep at all time, where at least one guard always had his eye on her. It was needed for her safety, she had said and she was not easy to convince once she had anything in mind. A habit learned from the former Queen, she has said to Laeherys.
Lady Alerie had told her to enjoy herself today as they were looking for Margaery's wedding jewelry. Another day to bore herself with reading, teaching herself High Valyrian or Dothraki, sewing or walking around the gardens, the young princess sighs. She did not like to do nothing, as it made her days feel long and meaningless.
And so, Laeherys picks up the light, thin skirts of her beautiful blue dress with golden stitches and runs around, enjoying the exercise and feeling of freedom. Some of the ladies of court look at her as if she had gone mad, but she ignored them all. She should enjoy the freedom as long as possible for when her brother would return to Westeros, take the Iron Throne and lock her up in a cage, she thinks.
She knows that Lady Tyrell does not like thinking about it, but she knows that her brother would rather see her as his wife than his sister. She did not understand why, as he did not even know her. Wouldn't he have rather married someone he loved? Someone he cared for?
As her mind fills with thoughts, she does not notice that she runs into a group of a few men. Soon her arm was grabbed and she was roughly pushed aside while she hears someone murmur 'are you alright, ser, my prince?'
She looks up and sees Prince Tommen and his uncle, ser Jaime. The man who murdered her father. Laeherys looks down and curtsies. "I am so sorry for my inappropriate behaviour, my prince, ser, it will not happen again-"
"It doesn't matter, I'm not made of sugar," a voice says. She looks up to meet the emerald eyes of the prince, who smiles at her. A light red colour rises on his cheeks as he stands opposite her.
"Still, it was not my target to hurt you, my prince," she says, blushing as well under his rather intense gaze. Laeherys was perfectly capable of seeing prince Tommen apart from his uncle, and she found him rather kind.. and cute.
The prince smiles at her and holds him arm out, ignoring the warning gaze of his uncle. "You will be forgiven.. if you walk with me," he says. Laeherys was not sure what to do, as Lady Tyell forbid her of going off with any man, no matter how nice or beautiful. But.. she could not defy a prince. And so she decides.
"Thank you, my prince," she says, laying her hand in the crook of his arm. He smiles and begins to walk, with Laeherys following right behind him.
"Tommen, did you forget that we were talking," ser Jaime asks in a try to stop them. The prince looks over his shoulder. "Sorry, uncle, but I do think that the seating in my brother's wedding does not need my opinion or help. Please do excuse me now." Tommen turns the back of his head to his uncle and places his hand gently on hers.
The both of them, the prince and the secret princess, walk off further into the gardens and were followed by the Lannister guards. They talk about small nothings and tell jokes to each other. Laeherys had to admit to herself that he was very nice and easy to talk to.
"Do you look forward to my brother's wedding. I mean, it is your lady's daughter that will marry him," he asks as they sit down for lunch together in the stone pavilion with sight over the sea. He orders a servant to bring them sweets, bread and cheese before bringing his attention back to the black haired girl. Laeherys squirms in her seat, looking rather uncomfortably around.
"I-It's the greatest honour for my lady's family that the King marries Lady Margaery-" "That was not what I asked," Tommen laughs, taking Laeherys' hand on the table in his. "I asked if you look forward to it."
Laeherys blushes. "Well, I think so? When they are married, the Lady Tyrell will return to Highgarden.. and then so will I." Tommen's smile wavers a little, but he keeps it up. "Do you miss home?"
The Targaryen nods her head. "A little. I miss the simple life, do you understand?" The prince shrugs. "I have never known normal. You get born a prince, you know?" "I wouldn't know, my prince," she replies, her eyes blank.
Tommen quickly changes the suspect, knowing that they were going down a wrong path. Soon enough they were laughing again and he promised to introduce her to Ser Pounce, who Laeherys found very cute.
Soon two servants came up to place their lunch down and the two ate together rather comfortably, as if they've been best friends for years. Tommen saw why he was in love with her every time she was nice to him, everytime she smiled and every time she cared for him and his opinion.
Like he was an adult, a man like his uncles and grandfather. It made him feel worthy.
Night was coming quickly and it became time for supper while the prince and the handmaiden were still out and enjoying themselves. The guards tell prince Tommen that he was expected inside to dine with his family and the Tyrells and the Martells, who arrived in King's Landing earlier that day.
He sighs. "Sadly our ways have to part now, my lady-" "Sorry, my prince, but I am no lady," Laeherys quickly interrupts. Tommen smiles at her and grabs her hand. Then he lays a soft, gentle kiss on it as he stares into her eyes. "You are my lady then, Laella. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, my prince," the girl curtsies, bowing her head for him. Tommen nods his head one time and walks off with his guards. He wasn't even around the corner before he stopped and turned around.
"Before I forget, it would do me the greatest honour if you would be my table lady at Joffrey's wedding feast." That request surprised Laeherys immensely and she stutters to get an answer out.
"I-I am not s-su-ure that's a g-good-" "You do not have to decide yet, I still have time. Sleep over it, I'll hear your answer soon," the prince says and he flashes one last smile at her before walking away.
Laeherys quickly runs back to the chambers of Lady Tyrell in one of the Red Keep's towers and flings herself onto her bed. She hugs her cushion as she smiles into herself.
She has finally found a companion in King's Landing and she had to admit.. she liked him very much.
