) chapter 25. (
TOMMEN had returned temporarily from Dorne and moved northwards, to the seat of House Tully. It was where he agreed to meet with the bastard of Ned Stark, a man and soldier named Jon Snow. He would take his sisters, the ladies Sansa and Arya Stark, with him there.
He and his guards rode onto the grounds of the Tully's, wrapping Tommen in a feeling of insecurity. He was on the land of the enemy and though he has his best guards, his mother and the army of the Lannisters with him.. he was still not quite sure what to think.
After all, Lady Sansa had enough reasons to distrust them, or even hate them. Lady Arya, same story. He hadn't heard much of Jon Snow yet, but Tommen knew that he was as proud and just as the late Lord Eddard Stark. Not beating around the bush, just honesty.
He was very honest himself, or at least he hoped he was. The young king hoped that the former member of the Night's Watch could appreciate that. His mother though.. was another matter. She had been vicious and evil to the Stark family, so Tommen had told her that he wanted to do this meeting without her.
She had been furious, to say the least. She had scolded him for being so 'idiotic' to 'bring himself in danger' by meeting 'those Starks' on 'his own'.
Tommen had to remind her who the King of the Seven Kingdoms was, and then she shut it. The Lannister knew she just wanted to keep him safe, especially after she lost his siblings, but she did not help his cause.
A cause in which he would have his Queen and their child back, safe and healthy.
He balled his fist. Tommen could not imagine what that awful man would do to her or their child. He tried to focus on the job ahead, convincing the Starks that the Lannisters were far less worse than the Targaryens, and not on his miserable life.
The King and his guards stand before the door of the hall. They were waiting for the Starks to let them in. Tommen was not stupid, though many people would think he was, and and so quite cautious of this whole meeting. These people were arch enemies of his mother's House.
They were controlled on bearing any weapons and when proven that they didn't, they were invited in. Tommen struts through the door first, followed by his men. In his entourage was Lady Alerie.
Tommen had noticed lately that the woman was looking quite sick. Her face was very pale, she had big bangs and her hair was an untamable mess. She stayed by his side to find Laeherys back. He was still unsure for the reason why. After all, she brought Viserys to Westeros, but he trusted her when it came to Laella's wellbeing.
When he entered the rather sober room, he immediately met the brown eyes of Jon Snow, Bastard of the North. Next to him were his two half-sisters and his half-brother. The rest of their family was long gone. Mostly because of his own.
The man was seated at a long, wooden dining table. It was engraved with the sigil of House Tully, giving the table a sort of elegance. Tommen stopped before the table and felt quite uncomfortable at being stared at by these Northeners. Still, he bowed his head.
"Lord Snow, it is an honour to meet you." His entourage followed his example. Snow waved his hand and two females walked up to them, holding bread and salt. They fell under the protection of guests, but had that always stopped someone? The Red Wedding was a great example of that..
He took the bread, dipped it in salt and popped it into his mouth, all while staring at the four Northeners. He had heard a lot of their stories over time. How Lady Arya survived, how Lord Bran became the Three Eyed Raven, how Lady Sansa survived the Boltons and how Jon Snow became Lord Snow of Winterfell.
"It is an honour as well, King Tommen, though I wonder why you appeared before me. As you know, our families have rivers of bad blood between them." Tommen nods, but puts on his best smile. "I know that, Lord Snow, but I am not like my family."
"Though you did bring your Lady mother with you, and she is exactly like the rest of the Lannisters," Lady Arya cuts in, her eyes cold and sharp as they stare him down. He remembered their first meeting, how she was dressed up like a lady. But Arya Stark was anything but a lady. She was a murderer and an assasin.
"I know I brought her here, but I did not intend her to be before you, for obvious reasons. But.. she is still my mother and doesn't want to lose me. Especially in these times.." He turns to Lord Snow, ready to plea his case.
"I have come here before you to beg you for help. My wife, my pregnant queen, has been kidnapped by the Martells. After her disappearance it turned out that my queen was secretly a daughter of the former king, Aerys II, and her brother Viserys took her as his. But I love my queen, and I couldn't lose her.. so I started a war."
He looks at Jon Snow seriously. "A war I need your help for."
"Why would we consider helping you? Why would we want to help our enemy." Tommen sighs, knowing this question would be asked. He takes a breath and speaks.
"To prevent a bigger asshole from rising upon the Iron Throne. He would kill you all without a thought." "And you not, you say," Jon Snow asks. Tension filled the room and shivers run down Tommen's spine. He was not easy to convince, but he never thought this man would be.
Lady Sansa stares him down, her blue eyes cold as ice. "Who is your queen, King Tommen," she asks. "The girl who was seated next to you at my brother's wedding, Laella. I have made her my wife, but then the Sand Snakes of Oberyn Martell kidnapped her from our chambers," Tommen explains and he balls his fist when he thinks back to that day.
"I am sorry for you, King Tommen.. I liked Lady Laella very much. But how did Viserys survive these years? I thought all Targaryens were murdered after Robert's Rebellion," Lady Sansa replies. King Tommen looks over his shoulder at Lady Alerie. "Because of people who helped them. But I can not blame them. My father was often not the best king, so I understand hesitation."
It was then that Bran Stark's eyes rolled back. He started murmuring incoherrent things. Tommen hears a gasp behind him and turns around to see Lady Alerie, her eyes rolled back as well. It was quite scary and Tommen felt out of control.
"What is going on? What is he doing to my entourage," Tommen asks in a panicky voice. Jon Snow raises a hand, signing him to stop. "He is using Greensight. I suspect he is sharing Lady Alerie's memories."
They just had to wait for the vision to be over...
