) chapter 30. (
Still furious from his previous conversation with his sister-wife, Viserys returns to the walls around Sunspear and looks down on all the blood and gore from the dead soldiers. He did not feel anything about the dead of his men. They were only tools, meant for him to reach his goal. Nothing less, nothing more. His eyes scan around for the men of his enemy and specifically one certain man..
The man that holds his wife's heart.
His hand tightens around the grip of his sword angrily and his eyes were ablaze. When he finds him, he shall end him and serve his guts to his wife on their anniversary. It was his fault, his and that of the stupid maid, that his child was now death. He caused her all the stress, he made her ill with this war to claim what was not even his.. it was all his fault, yet she loved him and despised her brother.
He needs to be put in the ground for their story to move forward. Viserys was certain of their victory, even if their numbers weren't well and Khal Drogo was killed, causing the loyalty of his men to fade. Never had a Dragon lost from something as meek as a lion. The prince walks towards one of the guards who was drinking some wine from his bag. "How are the men," he questions.
The soldier looks up to his prince with dead eyes. He had no will to live anymore, that much was clear. "They have reached our borders, my Lord. Any second and they will be inside the palace. How is the Queen?" Viserys tightens his jaw and balls his free fist. "Our child has miscarried." The man looks down. "I would have said sorry for your loss, my Lord, if you had shown a little compassion to the losses we make every day to keep this nonsense war going."
Viserys growls lowly. He points his finger at the soldier, hoping to seem threatening. "I do not tolerate this disrespect. Learn to be obedient or I will have you flogged!" The man looks back and stands up, now towering over his lord. "You know what? Fuck this war, fuck all of this and, most importantly, fuck you.." He walks off while muttering under his breath. "Dragon Prince? Rather the Prince of Nothing! Can not even get his sisters to fucking like him, nonetheless his men."
It stung, but Viserys could do nothing more than scream at him, which he eventually stopped because he was sounding pathetic. The prince was watching as other soldiers stood up and followed the former one. They all deserted. His army was crumbling down and so the defense for the hated Targaryen Prince. He had lost it all..
And for the first time in his life, Viserys kneeled on the ground and sobbed wholeheartedly. He admitted to himself that he was no general or leader like his ancestor Aegon the Conqueror, or any of his ancestors. He was no mastermind, no cunning person who could wrap anyone around his finger. He was mad and a horrible person, like his father had been.
So when the walls were broken down and the army of Tommen Baratheon strut inside Sunspear, all the king found was the crying prince on the ruins of the barricade. He felt a sense of pity to see the male look so defeated, but that was quickly overthrown by the hate and disgust he felt for what he did to his wife.
He looks to General Arya and Commander Jon Snow. "Arrest him, but let him live. I believe his guilt will be enough punishment for a lifetime." Obviously Arya Stark was not agreeing, but she bit her tongue and nodded her head. Tommen continued his way into the castle and came across a locked door when he hears a plea for help.
"You there, get me out of here!" The king immediately turns around and walks to the ebony door. "Uncle Jaime?" It was silent for a few seconds when he hears the voice of his uncle through the door. "Tommen, is that you? What are you doing here, it is dangerous for you to even be somewhere near Sunspear-" "Uncle, we have won the war. Viserys has surrendered himself."
The Baratheon boy looks around for something that he could open the door with when he looks at the sheath of his sword belt. He pulls his sword and pries the doors open. For the first time in months he saw his uncle again. The two men hug each other tightly. "I missed you, uncle," the boy cries. He had been strong for so long that he had allowed himself to let his tears fall and his emotions to be shown. It was all over now. The War of the Weeping Queen was decided and done.
"I missed you too, nephew. You've grown so much in my absence and I don't mean only your length." Jaime cups his nephew's, his son's, face and looks him in the eyes that look so similar to himself and his mother. He wanted to tell him the truth that Myrcella now knows too, that he is their father, but he couldn't bring himself to. Not yet.
Tommen looks up at his uncle with wide, frightful eyes. "Where is Laeherys? Where is Myrcella? Are they well?" Jaime replaces his hands, now on the shoulders of his son. "They are in the cellars with the other ladies, but there are things you must know." The king shivers visibly. "W-what, what happened?"
Jaime sighs deeply as he wanted to bring him the difficult news he heard before he was locked up in this room a few days ago. "Tommen, your sister.. she married the Martell boy. I've heard they are expecting their first child. As for Laeherys - she gave birth to your son, but now she is expecting again from Prince Viserys. She can give birth any moment soon-" Tommen shakes his head and whimpers.
"N-no, she can't be. She's my wife, sh-she-" The poor boy stutters as all the worry, fatigue, anxiety and stress wash over him in a tidal wave. Jaime was there to catch him when he stumbles. "It might be best if you rest now-" "No, I need to find my wife." Tommen could barely stand on his legs as he tries to leave the chamber, so Jaime takes his arm and wraps it around his shoulders.
"Then we will find them together."
