) chapter 14. (
THE King's bethroted sniffles as they still stand in the throne room after the shocking revelation of their ruler. Tommen stands up from his throne and walks down to hold his arm out for her to take.
"Laella, I'd like to have you close to me until we are married, so guards: take her belongings from Lady Tyrell's room and place it into the empty chambers next to my new ones." The guards quickly scutter away, probably to retrieve her luggage. Tommen disgarded everyone present in the room, giving her only his attention.
"Would you like to see the room, Laella?" The Targaryen girl hesitantly takes his arm, knowing there would be no other choice. He walks with her through the corridors of the Red Keep, nearing the side that holds the Baratheons.
They are followed by the Kingsguard, the men who swore to protect Tommen forever. The King brings her to a pair of dark ebony wooden doors, throwing them open by himself. It shows a large room with a four-poster bed. The blankets were made of silk, cream coloured and with the Tyrell sigil on the fabric. There was a big mirror, a table by the window to eat at on a small pedastal, a make-up table and a large bookcase.
Tommen walks inside, taking her inside by the hand. "This will be your room from now on. It has a lot of history connected to your ancestory, you know?" "What do you mean with that," Laeherys asks him, running her hand over the covers of the books as she studies them.
"This was formerly prince Rhaegar's room. He and his wife, Elia of House Martell, have lived here. This is also the room in which Princess Elia bore Princess Rhaenys and Prince Aegon." "Rhaegar," Laeherys asks, her eyes snapping wide open at hearing her brother's name.
"You heard the tales of him," Tommen asks her as he walks up to stand behind her. "Yes, I did." She hears the doors close and knows the Kingsguard has left, but was still within hearing reach. His hands lay on her shoulders and she feels his breath on her neck.
Her heart and brain were fighting. Laeherys was no liar, especially not to herself, and she knows that she feels something for him. Yet the logical side of her, the one that remembers how he acted during Joffrey's wedding feast, keeps bringing it up: 'He's not good for you, he's a Lannister and a Baratheon. His family murdered yours.'
She was not sure what to think or feel.
"Please forgive me, Laella, I beg of you. I didn't know it would hurt you so much," he whispers to her clothed shoulder, his lips almost touching the fabric. "It does not hurt me, but it hurts Lady Margaery. It hurts Ser Loras. It hurts Lord Mace and it definitely hurts Lady Alerie. Renly was Margaery's husband, Tommen. And also, think of how it should feel like seeing your deceased brother being disgraced like this, being Lady Sansa."
Tommen flinches behind her. "I feel incredibly sorry, my love. If you can find it anywhere in your heart to forgive me and love me again.." Laeherys' head spins. Should she? She was to marry him, though against her will. Like most noble ladies, she should make the best out of her position.
Because, as a matter of fact, she won't be staying in King's Landing that much longer. Her brother Viserys and her sister Daenerys will come to Westeros and fight the Lannisters, and Prince Oberyn will bring her to Sunspear.
"I forgive you, my King," she sighs, lowering her head. She hears the happy sigh coming from Tommen's lips, the warmth of his breath being able to feel through her dress. "I am so glad to hear that," he murmurs. His fingers find her chin and tilts her face closer to his. His lips press a gentle kiss on her cheek.
At that moment they were disturbed by the servants bringing in her personal belongings, which was not much. Tommen steps away from her, leaving Laeherys' more room to breathe.
The King speaks up again. "Tomorrow we have a meeting with the Small Council and the Tyrells to talk about our marriage and the feast we'd like to give. It won't be as extravagant as Joffrey's wedding, unfortunately, because that kind of drained the Realm's till."
Laeherys nods, but truly? It was all numb to her. "As you wish, my King." Tommen quickly hugs her from the side and pecks her rosy lips for a short moment. "I have to leave. The Council would probably want to speak with me about.. this decision," he says.
"Then I shall no longer bother you, your Grace," the handmaiden mutters, curtseying for her King. The King sighs. "You are to be my bride, love. We will be equal, so call me Tommen, please. Like we used to." "It can never go back to how it used to be," she sighs.
Her words leave the King speechless and so he leaves the room in silence. The servants leave after him and Laeherys can hear the sound of the metal armor of the Kingsguard, them walking away.
The princess sighs. Here she was, locked up in the bedchambers that once belonged to her brother and she was to marry a King. "What have I gotten myself into," Laeherys asks herself as she grabs for her hair, almost pulling it out. Then a male voice calls up.
"Lady Laella, Lady Alerie of House Tyrell asks for audience." Laeherys was not sure how to react to that, so she just said: "Let her in."
The doors open and Lady Alerie walks in. She bows for her, only because the guards were still looking. But once the doors closed, she runs towards her. Her arms wrap tightly around the princess.
"I'm so sorry, my love, but there is nothing I can do without openly betraying my King. But don't you worry, we are making great allies-"
"What do you mean, how," Laeherys asks as she separates herself from the lady. Her eyes stand determined. Lady Tyrell smirks. "We have the Martells in our pocket, together with the Dothraki. You sister Daenerys has killed the slave masters and has the Unsullied at her side. The Boltons rule in the North, but a certain bastard of Ned Stark is rising against him. If we get him to join our sides, and my own people.. we are unstoppable."
Laeherys sighs. "They will never arrive on time. Tommen has arranged for the Small Council and the Tyrells to speak of the wedding. He wants to marry as soon as possible. Soon after he will want me with child and then I can never leav-" Lady Tyrell grabs her by the shoulders and shakes her.
"Listen to me, listen to me.. that won't happen. I won't let him take your virtue. You will leave to Sunspear once time is there, I will make sure of it," Lady Alerie promises, hugging the girl close to her.
"I love you," the woman mutters as she was at the brink of tears. "I love you too, my lady," Laeherys replies.
