) chapter 26. (
BRAN was confused as to where he was when he entered this memory, but what he was sure of was that he was South. He was in a bedchamber, that he was sure of.
The door to the room opens and two women storm in. One was tall and gracious, with long silver blonde hair. Her skin was vey pale and contrasted greatly with her ink black gown. A crown lays proudful on her head and she holds a bundle of blankets in her arms.
Behind the woman followed another woman, dressed in the same emerald green as her eyes. Her hair was long and black. They seemed to disagree on something.
"Your Grace, we can not leave King's Landing like this! We should not fear Robert Baratheon," Lady Alerie exclaims. The woman in black shakes her head as she lays the babe in the blankets down and begins packing.
"We are no longer safe, Alerie. If you want to return to your husband and children, I understand, but I am going to Dragonstone with mine." She was throwing expensive gowns around. Alerie shuffles forward.
"My Queen, I once told you I would never abandon you. This won't be the day I do." The Queen, someone Bran now recognises as Queen Rhaella, smiles gently at the woman.
"You are truly the only friend I have ever known, Alerie. But you know me long enough to know I would not hold a grudge if you decide to leave King's Landing for Highgarden.." "My children are in great hands with my husband and mother-in-law. You are the one who needs me." Lady Alerie lays her hand on the queen's shoulder.
Bran was staring at this gentle moment of friendship, not realising that the door to the chambers had opened. Apparently, the two women also didn't. The queen's eyes widen in fright at seeing a male, dressed in royal robes with a crown on his head, that looks almost identical to the queen. The young Stark realises that this must be Aerys, the Mad King.
Somehow it sent shivers down his spine to know he stands in the same room as the murderer of his grandfather and uncle.
The king held the shoulder of a young boy with shoulder long, silver hair and pushes him into the room. "The carriage is filled with Viserys and Laeherys' clothes and belongings. This is when we say goodbye, dear sister."
He glares at Lady Alerie, a silent sign that she should leave. The woman was about to go, but queen Rhaella grips her wrist in fear. "Don't. Leave. Me," she whispers into Alerie's ear, but Bran was able to hear everything.
Aerys was seemingly frustrated. "Why don't you leave me and my wife, hmm?" "Because I don't want her to leave," Rhaella replies in Alerie's name. Aerys focusses his anger on her now, but seems to tone it down a minute.
He struts forward, looking down into the crib where the babe lies. "We will part now, might never see each other again. There is a great chance our son will fail on the Trident." Rhaella walks to his side. "I know.."
"Which is why I send you and our heirs to Dragonstone. We may have not gotten along-" "You abuse me, Aerys. You may be my brother-husband, but that does not mean you can do everything you desire with me," she exclaims.
"At first we were alright, but then my surge for power got too great, paranoia and insanity took over.. plus the big mistake of trusting that devious Tywin Lannister," Aerys says, his fingers softly trailing the skin of the babe in the crib. The same pale complexion, this must be the Laeherys they had been speaking of.
"That does not excuse your actions. Even if we survive this, it can never go back to how we once were.. as brother and sister instead of husband and wife." Queen Rhaella puts a cloak with fur lining over her shoulders as she readies herself for the long trip and then takes the child from the crib to dress her up warm.
She was about to leave King's Landing for Dragonstone with Laeherys, Viserys and Alerie, when Aerys stops them one last time. "I will acknowledge her as mine, also on paper. I let the Maester write it down just a few moments ago. I thought you should know, before we part ways."
"Why now? Why are you now sane and acknowledging her? After all these months.." "Maybe because I try to redeem myself, to make sure I don't get punished too bad by the Seven? Maybe because I would not want my children to remember me while being in disgust? I don't know."
Without a word left to say, he pecks Queen Rhaella on her lips and whispers to Alerie, who still stands frozen. "Protect her and our children. Promise me, Lady of Highgarden. Promise me."
Alerie gasps at the direct conversation she had with her lady's brother, her king. To Bran, it seemed like it had never happened before to her. But she murmurs her reply while the eyes of both humans are focused on the queen, who was dressing Viserys in a warm cloak.
"I promise."

THE Three Eyed Raven opens his eyes again. His pupil and iris are back, same going for Lady Alerie. "Just before the Battle at the Trident, Aerys aknowledged her. If Viserys dies in this war, she is the true heir to the Iron Throne," Bran tells them.
Jon asks the Lannisters to leave so they could talk about this matter and take a final decision. He orders the guards to escort them to their room while he stands up from the table with his family, leaving for a small council.
The Starks go to another room and summon some of their most trusted advisors, like Samwell Tarly and Brienne of Tarth. Jon rests his closed fists on the table and stares grimly at the people surrounding him.
"What do you think, can we trust them," he asks. It was Sansa who first raises her hand. "I think we should support the Lannisters in this. I know King Tommen, and he is far more merciful and noble than what I've heard of Viserys Targaryen. Also, I think that Laella is a good queen to Tommen. If we defeat Viserys, she becomes the heir to the Throne and so does Tommen, as he's married to her," Sansa says.
Jon nods his head and turns to Brienne. "You have been in King's Landing while Sansa was. What is your vision on this Boy King and his wife?"
Brienne shrugs her shoulders. "Tommen seemed a good boy, but it was obvious that he was obsessed with his lady. He will die for her, murder for her. For queen Laella, he will go insane like her father."
"What about the girl herself? Can we trust her," Jon asks. Brienne stays silent, seemingly to think about it. "I am not sure, my lord. I don't know her enough to conclude that."
Jon sighs. "So we have one vote in favor, one who does not know.. what about the rest." Arya shakes her head no, Bran nods and Samwell and Gilly nod as well. "I've heard King Tommen in the hallways. She is pregnant with the Lannister's child. He suspects that Viserys will kill it, because it is a constant reminder that another man has had her. I can not stand here and do nothing while I was in almost the same situation," Gilly says.
"That is it then. We move our armies southwards and fight side by side with the Lannister boy. After then, we can see what happens."
