It was the day of the adoption fair thing. I sat at the back of the room, not really caring who was seeing me and who wasn't. "Straighten up your shirt, Jeremy. David! Clean your face! And Connor come out here please." The matron said and I groaned annoyed.

"Fine..." I grumbled and stood up walking over.

"Fix that attitude young man." She said and sighed fixing my wrinkled shirt the best she could, "...Sit there please. He will be arriving soon!" She called the last sentence so everyone would hear.

I took a deep breath, knowing whoever this king would would not ever adopt me. I mean the statistics of the situation suggests I have about a ten percent chance of adoption out of a hundred. Besides, I was more focused on getting revenge on HYDRA for my parents and sister's death.

"Here is here!" Warned the matron. "Keep on your best behavior!"

The king of Wakanda walked in and by his side a young boy held his hand. He seemed to be about my age. The boy let go of his father's hand and wandered around until finally he arrived at my table. He tilted his hand and then grinned holding out his hand for me to shake, "Hello, I am T'challa." He introduced himself. I noted his thick African accent.

I shake his hand awkwardly, "My name is Connor."

"Pleasure to meet you." He smiled and then asked, "What's it like here?"

"At the orphanage?"

"Yeah."

"It's fine, I guess." I shrugged unsure what else to say.

He took my hand, goofily grinning and drug me over towards his dad. I stumbled along with him bewildered at what was happening. My brain was trying to processes what exactly was happening. "Hey!" T'challa excitedly called to his dad. "Can we pleeeease keep this one?"

I stared blankly at T'Challa. What was I? A dog or something?

T'Chaka chuckled, "...Son. I..." He looked at his son, sighed and smiled, "I will see what I can do."
