Arriving at Atlantic City High that morning was great. It's not everyday that you get to have your crush kiss you goodbye. Ever since I did kiss Roo I haven't stopped grinning.
It was difficult hiding from Rose just so that I could kiss him again. Eventually we would have to tell her but when the time comes. Right then I was focusing on being happy.
“I know, that smile anywhere. Becky had it and now you do too." Rose said to me as we walked towards our last class, homeroom.
“I'm just happy okay?"
We walked in the class to the back left corner where Becky was sitting, “A little too happy if you ask me." She said.
“Is there a guy your not telling us about?" Rose asked.
“Is it AJ? I knew you two were destined to be together!" Becky assumed.
“Yes and no. I'm done with AJ. But there is a guy. A wonderful, smart, funny, very funny, guy who is just perfect." Argh, listen to yourself, you sound like your in love.
“I want to meet this guy! Is he in our year? School?"
“Hey, slow down Becky. He is in our year but not our school."
“His name?" Rose asked.
“uhm, it's... Roo. At least that's what I call him."
The school day ended. I bid my goodbyes and went home. When I arrived an unfamiliar black car was parked outside. I figured that we just had guests over. I searched in my backpack for keys but stopped when I heard yelling. It sounded like my mother and a familiar male voice. I opened the door and you wouldn't believe who I saw standing there.
My dad.
I hadn't seen him in almost two years after he moved to Australia with his new wife. My mother's face was red and blotchy. Her eyes were swollen and red. It looked like she had been crying. I didn't even want to know what was going on. “Alex dear, back so early? I didn't expect you until four thirty." My mother began as she whipped her eyes dry.
“Yeah, I didn't stay to study," I lied, “is Annabelle here? I guess not I'll go fetch her. "
I went as fast as I could towards my car. I started up the engine and drove towards Ann's school. I couldn't believe my father was there. I wonder if anyone else knew of him being here. I don't think Tristan would know why. Or maybe he would. I doubt so.
After fetching Anny I had no choice but to go back home. I wondered how exactly my mom would explain everything to her. Ann I mean. She didn't know anything. All she knew was that Tristan and I were her brother and sister and that we had the same parents. She even thinks Michael is our uncle. I stopped in front of the house.
“Anny, before you go inside, there is something you should know."
“What is it Lexi?" I explained to her the whole story and tried to comfort her when she began to cry. She rejected me. She then ran out of the car into the house. I tried to catch up to her and heard my mother call her as she ran up the stairs and slammed her door behind her.
My mom and dad sat in the living room. “I'm sorry mom. I had to tell her. She just had to know." I guess Tristan did know after all that my dad was there. He didn't seem the least bit surprised as he walked in the door. Well it cold have also been because he lost all respect for him. They didn't always have the best relationship. After my dad left Tristan somehow changed. I mean, he still was the caring type but only when he wanted to. Most of the time he acted like a prick.
“Alex it's alright dear." My mom said. “I think you two should sit down for this." She continued.
“Tristan, the man. How are you? And Alex look at you all grown up." My dad had developed a slight Australian accent since I last saw him.
“What do you want." I asked bitterly. I didn't mean to sound rude. I was just angry at him. He left his kids for some other woman. I understand why he left my mom and I probably would too for the same reasons. But he didn't have to cut off all forms of contact with us.
“So, your father, wants to tell you something Alex." My mom's eyes filled up with tears.
“Yes, I wanted to tell you that in two months you will be coming with me to live in Australia." Tristan and I stared blankly at him.
“Are you being serious right now? You're gonna take my sister to another country? My only sister? You can't be fucking serious dad." A series of swear words followed after Tristan's statement as he stormed towards the front door. I sat quietly in my seat trying to comprehend what was said.
I was going to move to Australia. In two months.
“I know it may be confusing now but trust me. Its for your own good." My dad assured.
I still sat in silence until my eyes filled up with tears. “Why. Why take me away from all I've ever known to a place I don't want to go to. My life, my friends and my family are here."
“Yes, and I'm sorry for that but-"
“But you still want to take that away. When you left mom, you left me as well. I was doing perfectly fine without you, and life has been a fucking joy. I'd rather have you stay out of my life and keep all your shit to yourself."
“That's enough Alexis." He seemed more angry than calm and collected like before. “I don't care that you have friends here. I had a deal with your mother, when you turn seventeen you come and live with me. Your birthday is exactly a month away."
“Oh for fucks sake. You made a deal about my life. The best fucking mother in the world." I was now talking to my mom as she cried.
“Don't talk to your mother that way child!" My dad stood up while shouting at me. He then sat down again. “You're moving and that's final."
“Screw you! Screw both of you! I hate you!" I ran towards the front door, grabbing my keys in the process.
I didn't know what I was gonna tell my friends, Rose, Becky. Don't forget Roo. Gosh, Ryder, how was i supposed to tell him that i was leaving. I don't want to leave especially after we started to have a thing.
I drove to the one place I knew that I could find peace of mind. The gas station.
Once I got there I bought something to drink. I sat on the pavement and began to cry. Usually I wouldn't care in a situation like this but this was my life we were talking about. I couldn't just get up and leave.
I sat there for another twenty minutes before deciding to go home. When I arrived at home my dad's car was gone. I went in and didn't talk to Anyone. Annabelle was still angry at me. Tristan went on a rampage and I was just avoiding my mother altogether.

I lay on my bed and then switched on my phone. The messages from AJ were still there. Unread.
I'm sorry for how I acted at the wedding. Tris got to me. Let me make it up to you? A night out?
I could really use something like that. Something to get my mind off all bad things that have gone wrong.
Me: if the offer still stands I'll take it.
AJ: sure. I'll be there in ten.
I grabbed my grey sweater hanging on my cupboard next to Ryder's jacket. AJ arrived shortly after that. I had to sneak out through the window in order not to be questioned by my mother. “I thought you would never reply. It's nice to see you Lex."
