AJ took me to a small town just outside the city. The place looked kind of familiar and then I noticed the library. The same library I was at just the day before. We drove past it and stopped by a small diner nearby. AJ became the perfect gentleman once again by opening the car door for me. His kind gesture definitely brought me memories of the party. The only difference was that I felt nothing. Absolutely nothing for him.
“Welcome to Tyron's Deep Fried Chicken, what can I get for you two?" A women dressed in a short red dress with a brown a apron wrapped around her waist appeared. The name Marry was sown into the top right corner of the dress. I searched the menu for anything of interest. I was glad that AJ knew me so well. I do love fried chicken but not as much as mac and cheese. Everything on that menu included chicken. “I'll have a chicken burger please."
“Make that a double."
“Sure thing," she winked at AJ, “it'll take no longer than ten minutes." She left to behind the counter that lead to the kitchen.
I thought about telling AJ about my relocation. This would be the perfect time to tell him. You might as well do it now, he deserves to know even if he doesn't mean as much anymore. My eyes filled up with tears. “Alex? What's wrong?"
“I have something to tell you." He moved his chair closer then began to rub circles on they back of my hand that was on top of my knee.
“What is it? You can tell me anything Lex."
“I...I'm.. Movi-"
“Two chicken burgers for the lovely lady and her da- " I was interrupted by the waitress coming back with our ordered food. “Uhm, I'll just leave this here. Call me if you need anything." She gave me a half-hearted smile before leaving . I tried to smile back at her but it ended up being a crooked smile. I felt a tear role down my cheek.
“Adam. I'm moving to Australia."
“What? When?" The tears started flowing and there was no way I could hold them back. AJ didn't wait for a reply but engulfed me in a hug. I put my arms around him and hugged him tightly. I cried into his chest before stabilizing my breathing and mumbled.
“In two months." We sat there while our food was getting cold. I was glad to be with someone I could trust. AJ isn't boyfriend material to me. More like best friend material. He began rubbing circles on my back. Another ten minutes passed before a bell rang signaling that someone was coming in the double doors.
It could have been anyone that walked through that door but I didn't bother to look up. But it just had to be the one guy that i liked ever so much. “Louis?" My head switched around after realising who it was. I immediately moved myself away AJ. When I saw him, the hurt and betrayal could be seen in his eyes. His expression quickly changed to emotionless.
“It's not what you think Roo." I tried to defend myself.
“Roo? " I was focusing so much on Ryder that I didn't realise Rose was standing right next to him along with Parker.
“I thought there was going to be an us. I guess not."
“An us?" Rose repeated after him. It didn't take much longer before she figured out. “My own brother?! Alex you could have at least told me."
“No, I mean yes. I'm sorry. Just let me explain." My eyes began to fill up with tears again.
“Enough has been said and seen." With that Ryder stormed out and I felt a pain in my chest. That's the feeling of rejection, sweetheart. Rose followed after him in the same manner. Parker just smiled at me and left as well. It felt like my whole world was crashing down. I lost one of my best friends and a guy I think I'm actually might be falling for.
