Chapter 12 - "I heard you."

It has been 16 hours, 9 minutes and 45 seconds since Aria's came out of her surgery. Her eyes still hasn't opened, her heartbeat remains stable and machines beside her reminds everyone how damaged she actually is.

"How's Alex doing?" Georgia asked, fixing Aria's pillow position.

Alex hasn't been to hospital since that night. She hates herself too much to be there. She remembers the last words they've shared that night at the beach and decided Aria wouldn't want to see her.

"Still hung up on the fact that she's the one to blame." Ashley answered, looking at Aria's unconscious state.

"Man, someone has to go talk to her." Nikki complained as she gave her the coffee she picked up from the hospital cafeteria.

"I'll go." Ashley announced, standing up from a chair and taking a sip of the coffee. Almost immediatly, she spit it back in.

"I'll buy some decent coffee on the way back." She said, handing the coffee back to Nikki and grabbing her car keys.

After a few minutes, Ashley was in front of the Jacob's house. She walked in, greeting Alex's mom who was sitting on the couch knitting something and her brother who was holding the ball of wool next to her and watching something on the telly.

She jogged up the stairs and saw Alex's bedroom with the door open. She knocked on the wood, grabbing Alex's attention.

Alex was painting a quote on her wall as Ashley sat down on her bed. Alex room was very hipster-esque, just like she wanted it to be. Her room consisted of pictures of the girls and herself stuck on the wall above her bed, vinyls stacked on a shelf and writings she painted on her walls. She was in the midst of finishing a writing when Ashley walked in.

They greeted each other in their usual manner. ("Hey loser." "What's up fucktard?") Ashley decided it was time to ask her why she wasn't in the hospital.

"Why aren't you at the hospital with us, Al? We really need you there man. Aria woul-" Ashley was cut off by Alex.

"Aria wouldn't want me there." Alex answered for her.

"Are you an idiot?" Ashley asked rhetorically. "The first thing she would be doing is asking for you." Ashley argued.

Alex sighed, "I'll go when I'm ready, okay?"

Ashley sighed too, knowing she couldn't just cuff Alex's hands and duct tape her mouth and drag her to the hospital. Although she wanted to. Oh, she really wanted to.

Ashley nodded her head as April walked into the room. Her pretty black hair identical to Alex's up in a perfect bun and a pink tutu around her waist.

"Ally, I'm late for my ballet class." She whined before she saw Ashley. When she did, she ran up to her hugging her yelling her name happily.

"I've got to go." Alex said, finishing up the writing and putting the paintbrush down. Ashley nodded once again as Alex guided April downstairs.

Ashley looked at the writing in black on the wall in front of her.

'Il n'y a pas des analgésiques pour chagrin d'amour'

"There are no painkillers for heartache." Ashley translated, smiling a little at the perfect cursive writing.

Alex was sitting by herself on a swing in an abandoned park. It wasn't actually abandoned, the kids were just now being dragged away from their mothers to be home for supper.
