Chapter 2 - This is Our House.
Alex's phone rang obnoxiously in her ear. She groaned, picking her head up, and answering her phone.
"Hello?" Alex muttered, still groggy. "Sup man?" She heard Nikki's voice ring through the device.
"You just woke me. What's happening?" Alex asked, slowing getting up and walking towards the bathroom.
"It's 3:30, babe. You woke up now? Even I don't sleep that late." Nikki said, chuckling a bit.
"Yeah you try running away from cops and reaching home only at 4 because they follow you like a fucking vulture." Alex grumbled, crankiness happens to her when she's sleepy.
"Oh yeah, forgot about that. Wanna come over?" Nikki asked, and Alex heard a slight thud from the other side of the phone. 'Nikki must have just propped down on some couch', she thought.
"Do you have breakfast?"
•••••
"Bye mom, going to Nikki's place." Alex announced, her both feet almost out the door. Her mom came running to the front door.
"At least eat something darling." Her mom said, worry in her tone. "I'll eat at Nikki's. I swear." Alex promised.
Alex kissed her mother's cheek and turned to walk to Nikki's house. Nikki's house was 4 houses away from Alex. Which meant 7 houses away from Ashley's house.
When she got there, she opened the door revealing her brother sitting on the living room couch, watching Naruto on his laptop. Alex rolled her eyes at him, 'typical' she thought entering the Ford's kitchen.
"Hi Tarraa." Alex greeted Nikki's mom, hugging her from behind as she wasn't paying attention to the door and instead to the dishes in the sink. "Oh hi, darling. How are you?" Tara Ford replied, smiling and hugging her back.
Tara Ford, was one of the most strongest woman the girls have ever known. She has gone through a lot but got up everyday with a smile on her face. Nikki resembled her a lot at times, the girls have noticed. Nikki's father was a nice man too. Sometimes too cool. We're talking about a guy who rapped a Eminem song while playing a game charades. (Which he rightfully won.)
Nikki's brother, Zac Ford, was quite the silent man. Zac -who was supposed to be in college in Scotland but is back home for the holidays- didn't like the girls so much. Maybe because he's heard about all the stuff. But he couldn't complain as he knows how much they mean to his baby sister.
"Nikki is up in her room?" Alex asked, half knowing she will be. "Yeah she is, I wonder what happened to her. Slept through breakfast and lunch. Woke up only an hour ago." Tara said, her back faced to Alex, still cleaning the dishes. "Hmm.. Wonder why." Alex said smirking, walking upstairs to the Ford's only daughter's room.
"Yoo!" Alex announced walking into Nikki's room. Nikki was sitting on her bed, drawing something. "Hey, what's up?" She said greeting back, only taking a quick glance at Alex. Alex walked behind her, and put her arm around her shoulder and hugged her in a clingy way. "Whatchya drawing?" Alex sing songed, swinging Nikki and herself side to side in the process.
Alex and Nikki have been together ever since pre-school, explaining how she got into the group without any questions. They were as close as Alex and Ashley. "Nothing." Nikki said closing her book, playfully rolling her eyes at the weirdo she called her best friend on her back.
"Oh come on." Alex said, tickling her then getting grip of the book. She pulled away from Nikki, walking backwards while opening the book. She flicked through the amazing artwork Nikki's done. "GIVE THAT BACK." Nikki yelled, trying to get Alex. Alex climbed up on Nikki's bed, still going through the drawings.
