Chapter 24 - Cats Out of The Bag.
Nikki's leg bobbed up and down nervously. She felt like the whole bus would have trembled down because she was shaking too much. The only people in the public bus was a man wearing a black trenchcoat sitting far at the back and herself. She looked down at her watch as it showed, 5:30 am.
The bus stopped abruptly as the driver in the front yelled out, "Last stop, Woodcliff."
This was Nikki's stop. She got up and walked through the doors of the bus, her shoes touched the damp concrete floor as she stepped off the bus.
She felt as if someone was following her, she whipped her head and saw the man in the trenchcoat stood close behind her. Her breathing picked up, she turned to look straight and bumped into someone's chest. The person held her in place as he grabbed either side of her shoulder with his rough hands.
"Taylor, you scared me." Nikki breathed out, slapping his chest lightly. She recognized his comforting face from under his hoodie. He looked at her, offering a small smile.
He looked up, over Nikki's shoulder and saw the man in the black trenchcoat staring down Nikki. He gave his cold hard stare, making the guy scurry away from them. Taylor looked back down at Nikki who seemed confused as a priest in a strip club. Taylor didn't blame her, he didn't explain anything in that 2 minute call he made to her from a payphone. She, herself, wasn't so sure she should come, but he sounded so conflicted and she thought that over all the people Taylor knows, he called her to come and help him out.
16 Hours Earlier.
'1:30 P.M'
The alarm clock buzzed loudly on Alex's beside table. Alex's eyes slightly opened and saw the numbers in red, blinking. She shut her eyes back again. When she realized it was actually 1:30, her eyes shot open. She was supposed to be getting up at 11 to pick April at school and drop her to her babysitters and finally go and help out Nikki with their new apartment.
She shot up, sitting upright in the bed. Alex got off her bed like a machine and ran around looking for her clothes. She took off her pants and replaced them with her skinny jeans. She picked up a random shirt that smelled clean and put it on. She searched around for her shoes, she found one underneath her bed. She put it on as she looked for the other one.
"April, did you see my other shoe?" She asked to the girl who sat quietly on the chair Alex had kept in her room. She paused what she was doing and looked at her, "April.."
April innocently smiled at her. Alex sighed as she sat on her bed, opposite to the chair and chuckled at her sister. "Did you see my other shoe?"
April nodded and pointed to the bedside table where her shoe sat next to the alarm clock. Alex nodded her head as a thank you and went to put on her shoe.
"When did you get here?" Alex asked as she sat back on the bed, tying her shoelaces.
"Andrew dropped me here and went back to his class." April answered as she looked at her older sister tying her shoelace then untying it because it wasn't tight enough. Alex nodded, finally satisfied with the tightness of the shoe, "Come on, we have to get you to Erica." Alex said referring to April's babysitters.
April nodded before Alex's phone rang. Alex winced when she realized the caller ID read 'Nikkiii' in big bold letters. She answered the phone and kept the phone away from the ear.
"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU? WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MOVING IN TODAY. I TOLD YOU TO BE HERE ON TIME, BUT NOOO. ALEX JACOB HAS HER OWN TIMINGS AND OWN PEOPLE TO FOLLOW IT. YOU KNOW WHAT, YOU GET YOUR ASS HERE OR I'M GOING TO COME THERE AND KICK IT TILL HERE." Nikki yelled in one go before hanging up.
