Arlo's PoV

I snapped out of it and pushed the girl away.

"The fuck was that!" I yelled and the girl started panicking.

"You- How?- I... I'm so sorry!" she yelled, tears in her eyes. She ran off crying, probably back to her friends. I might have almost felt bad for her if she didn't just use some weird ass ability on me and loose me my boyfriend. Did I just call John my boyfriend?! No time, I have to get to him before Ash does. If she finds out first I'll be in some serious shit. I ran off in the direction he went. I had to find him, to explain. I could feel a squeeze in my chest as I ran. I looked everywhere for him. The boba shop, the park, even a quick look through the mall. Finally I stood across the street from his house. I take a deep breath before walking across the street. I walked up to the front door but before I knocked I stepped back and looked in through the window. Sitting on the couch was John and... Sera? What an awfully convenient time for her to come back! I could also see Ash pacing, never a good sign. Assuming they already knew I decided to keep my life and try and get him alone tomorrow. Every part of me knew this would most likely be impossible but I wasn't going to risk my skin against Ash and Sera at the same time. I want to actually talk to John not get flayed in front of him. As I'm leaving I notice Isen across the street, might as well find out what I can about that girl.

"Hey Isen," I call out and he looks up from his phone.

"Ah! Yes Arlo?" he said putting it into his pocket.

"Do you know this girl, dark red hair, blue eyes? I think she's a mid-tier" I ask.

"Oh yeah! That's Diane, she's pretty popular among the mid-tiers. Why do you wanna know?" he said, eyebrow raised.

"Whatever you're thinking, stop it. She just said some dumb shit about liking me and then I felt all weird and kissed her," I said and he looked stunned.

"Oh, shit fam," he muttered and I took a deep breath.

"And John saw...." I grumbled. Isen starts sweating and grins sheepishly.

"Oh- Uhm... shit man uh... you're screwed..." he said shakily and I pinched the bridge of my nose.

"Yeah I know, just- find out everything you can about her. I need to know what the hell she did to me so I can hopefully fix this mess," I said, crossing my arms. Isen nodded.

"I'll get right on that. Oh and uh, good luck with John," he said with a sad smile. I just sighed. It was better if I knew what she did to me before I tried explaining things to John. If what happened had something to do with her ability then he had to know, it could lead to a lot less pain and blood shed in the future. I walked back to my apartment. My mind was flooded with thoughts, though none of them were very useful. Before I knew it I was back at my apartment. I fell over onto my bed and curled up in my sheets. I was exhausted, mentally and physically. I pulled my pillow against my chest and closed my eyes. There was a crushing pain in my chest, like someone was slamming a sledge hammer into my ribs. I just wanted to lay there and cry. No, I wasn't just going to just give up like this. There were turf wars going today and I needed to take out some stress. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and got up. I wiped the tears from my eyes before heading into the bathroom. I washed my face off and looked in the mirror. Everything was gonna be okay, I was not going to let this woman destroy everything I had worked to build up with John. It was... going to be okay.

John's PoV

I laid out on the couch, arm over my eyes. I wasn't sure what to do. I looked over to see Ash literally radiating darkness. I could also see Seraphina was pacing, though I'm not really sure why. I sat up and took a deep breath. By now all the pain had faded and was now just numb. It was like there was a huge hole where my heart would be, but I no longer felt the pain of it being carved out. Ash's gaze snapped to meet mine.

"I'm going to kill him," she stared bluntly, but I just shook my head. I didn't want him dead.

"No, don't kill him." She looked mutinous.

"Uhm, why not?" she asked hesitantly. I shrugged and looked down at my lap. I heard a soft sigh and felt someone sitting down next to me. I glanced up and saw Seraphina sitting next to me. She slid an arm around me and rested her head against my shoulder. I leaned into her embrace and Ash calmed down a little. "Fine, no murder," she grumbled, "but if he acts out then I'm gonna beat the shit out of him."

"That's fine," I said. She nodded and sat down on the couch with us. I was tired.

"There's always going to be at least one of us with you. I'm not going to let that asshole hurt you anymore," she growled. I chuckled weakly and yawned. I felt like shit. I jumped a little as I floated up. I looked down and realized Ash was levitating me. I relaxed a bit as I was floated into my room and dropped onto t he bed. I passed out almost immediately.
