Ash's PoV
Something was wrong. I don't know how or why but I could feel it. I tried to ignore it, I was with Remi after all. The two of us had been together all day. I ended up leaving her dorm around 1:30 AM. As I was walking back to John's house I just couldn't shake the feeling. I told myself it was nothing, I was being irrational. John would have called me if there was a problem. I rolled my eyes at myself and summoned a shadow fox outside John's house so I could shut my bitch ass up. I looked through its eyes and what I saw chilled my bones. John was standing in a huge yellow barrier, there was a van, a guy holding a knife to an unconscious Seraphina's throat, and Elaine sneaking around. I broke into a run. I had to get there and now! To John, to Sera, they needed me! I activated my ability as I neared John's house. Shadows clung to my body like ribbons as I ran. My 'wings' formed and I used them to push me forwards. Saw the van and got an idea. I leapt up and silently landed on the hood of the van. I stood there looking down on the unsuspecting man. John saw me and I winked. He didn't seem to understand or recognize me at first, which I found odd. He suddenly got the message and pretended I wasn't there. The man was slowly lowering the knife from Seraphina's throat and I grinned. Shadows slowly crept around the van. They formed and danced around the van like fire. I jumped up into the sky and floated there. The van exploded into flames and the man dropped his knife before whirling around to look at it. John darted forwards and grabbed the knife. Elaine ran forwards and grabbed Sera from the man. I smiled, they were safe. Now to deal with him. The shadows around me seemed to have a mind of their own. I didn't mind, they clearly knew more about what they where doing then me. They crept around my arms and down over my hands. I looked down and saw the shadows had formed huge black claws on my hands. I grinned and looked back down at my unsuspecting victim. I giggled quietly and dropped down, dragging my claws down the man's back. He cries out in pain and I can't help but laugh. I punch him in the gut as he turns around and he gets thrown back, crashing into the flaming van. Another car comes screeching to a halt next to the van. I narrow my eyes and growl. My gaze flicks from John, Seraphina, Elaine, and back to the car. There was another man who had been in the van who was dragging his unconscious partner to the car. I snarl again and charged at the car. It whips into reverse and drives off. I stand huffing and growling. I wanted to chase after them, to catch and rip them apart, I just didn't have the energy. I sigh and take a deep breath. Once I calmed down I looked back over my shoulder at John. Elaine was kneeling on the ground with Seraphina's head in her lap. I turned and watched John walk over and pick Seraphina up. I had deactivated my ability and the shadows had melted off. I noticed the broken window, that was going to cost a lot to fix. I thought I saw someone inside and narrowed my eyes. Another kidnapper? I snarl as I realize it's Arlo. What the hell is he doing here? Elaine got up and John started going inside. We follow him and meet up with Arlo in the living room. John gently sets Sera -who was somehow still asleep- on the couch before sitting next to her on the floor. I sat on the floor next to him and glared at Arlo, who was standing in the middle of the room. No one had said anything this whole time and the silence was getting to me. I nodded to Seraphina.
"What happened to her?" I asked, to no one in particular.
"She was drugged and stabbed," John stated, "we think they where some of the people who did it." I frown.
"If I had known that there would be bodies" John looks at me and I can tell he knows I'm being dead serious. I hear a sigh and glance at Arlo. He looks so uncomfortable, it makes me happy. Suffer bitch. Suffer. I glare at him.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, venom dripping from my voice and eyes narrowed. Before he can answer John cuts in,
"He's the one who found her, leave him alone... for now," he muttered the last part so only I could hear it. I nod and return my attention to Seraphina.
"I'll take watch outside," I state getting up. I didn't want to be in the same room as that asshole anymore. John looks up and nods. I head outside and float up to the roof. I sit down my mind racing.
'I'm gone for 7 hours and I come back to a stabbed and drugged Sera, Asslo in the house and alive, Elaine... I have no problem with her other then the fact that she ratted Seraphina out for having UnOrdinary.'
I let out a frustrated sigh massaging my temples. Who were those people? What did they want? Are they part of E.M.B.E.R? Is Sera going to be ok? These are just a few of the questions racing through my mind. I look out into the night, not seeing anything suspicious. The fire from the van had died down after I deactivated my ability. I looked at the burnt and broken van. My ability had never done something like that before. Ever since I came here, my ability has been getting.... stronger? It's not like it's power level is rising... but I'm able to do things with it that I've never done before. The claws, the fire, I couldn't do that before... I met Remi. At least, I don't think. It was so odd. I was really happy around Remi, she was a wonderful person and she really made me feel important. Other then that though... she wasn't anything that special. She has a cool and powerful ability, a wonderful smile, great personality, but nothing about her makes an ability stronger. It was so odd.
I sat on the roof for another hour just looking up at the stars and thinking. I heard the screeching of tires and I jumped. I gazed around but didn't see another van or car. I sighed, relaxing. There was nothing to be worried about. I heard a crash from inside the house and I growled. I sent a fox to investigate. I looked through it's eyes to see John and Arlo, basically at each other's throats. I silently slip down from the roof and in through the broken window. I walk into the living room and growl. I've been growling a lot lately it's kinda weird. I sigh,
"Stop fighting you two. John come with me," I said, grabbing his wrist and dragging him into his room where, Sera was sleeping. I look at him for a moment.
"Ash?" he asks hesitantly.
"Yeah John?" I respond, looking back at him.
"Can... can I ask you something stupid?" he asks and I chuckle.
"Yeah, sure," I said and he took a deep breath.
"What if... what if I was wrong...?" he asks and I raise an eyebrow.
"About what?" I question and he frowns.
"Arlo... cheating on me...? What if it was just a misunderstanding?" he asks and I sigh, this boy.
"John, they always pull the 'misunderstanding' thing. It's like a goddamn anime trope! They cheat once they'll cheat again..." I give him a small smile, "take your heart, time, and love and leave their cheating ass while you can." He sighs and smiles a little.
"Thanks Ash, you're the best." He pulls me into a hug and I gladly accept it.
"I know I'm the best," I mumble into his shoulder and he chuckles. We separate and I give him a reassuring smile. Suddenly we hear Sera groan. John quickly moves beside the bed and Sera sits up. "You're awake!" I exclaim. She looks around the room before grabbing the alarm clock. Her face scrunches up in concentration. I raise an eyebrow and look over at John who shrugs.
"You ok?" John asks and Sera turns to us, eyes wide.
"I cant use my ability."
