Chapter 17-Gone

**Erin’s point of view**

Paul drops us off in front of where we were all going to eat, In-n-Out Burger.

“Liam texted saying they were round back,” Zayn informs us.

We told them to get a table outside the restaurant but we didn’t tell them it was so we could keep the dog close by.
“You go on ahead with Eleanor, I’ll just talk to Erin for a bit,” Harry says. Emma and Rien had decided to take off somewhere. Though the boys were open to them, maybe except Louis, my two friends still wanted to give us our privacy. Not wanting to seem like I was using the job I was given to get others close to them and stuff. I was thankful.

Harry pulls me to the side, under the shade of a tree where people couldn’t notice us much and the puppy starts to sniff around the bushes close by.

“What’s up?” I start in a casual tone when he hasn’t said anything.

“Who were those people earlier?” he asks straight off and I bite my lip. I know I told him I’d let him in but it wasn’t so easy. The past hurt too much.

“They were just...I just had issues with them before,” I try, looking up at him, my eyes begging for him to understand.

He smiles slightly and tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear and presses his lips to my forehead, sending jolts throughout my system.

“I’ll be here when you’re ready,” he says with a smile as he pulls back.

“I can never thank you enough,” I reply.

“Sadly you’re such a trouble maker,” he jokes and I mock gasp in horror then hit him on the arm.

“Hey! Ow! Is that how to show your gratitude?!” he says as I laugh and the dog lets out a bark.

“Alright, come on you big baby. The puppy is hungry,” I tell Harry and he rolls his eyes at me but turns to go and walk towards where the others boys were at.

We make our way to the rest of the group, all of them clustered into a large round table already devouring whatever they ordered. As we came closer Liam notices us and his eyes grow wide as his eyes land on the dog.

“No way!” he yells, standing up.

“We got a dog!!” Harry says excitedly.

Liam stands up and comes towards us. He bends down and starts to pat the dog who happily licks his hand.

“Sick! You actually got Paul to say yes?” Louis says excitedly. Thankfully, the dog put him in a good mood.
Liam picks up the dog and brings it over to the table as everyone starts cooing it and Harry and I take our seats. Eleanor was to my left and then beside her was Louis then Liam, Niall, Andy, Zayn, then Harry who was to my right.

“Yeah,” Harry answers.

“Let’s name it!” Andy says, reaching out to ruffle the dog’s fur at the top of its head.

“I’m pretty sure this is going to be quite messy,” Eleanor laughs.

“Dumbo!!” Niall yells and everyone gives him a weird look.

“Dumbo?!” Louis goes.

“No way man it has to be something cooler!” Zayn protests.

“How about ‘Carrot’?” Eleanor jokes, nudging Louis’ shoulder who shoots her a playful glare.

“What about Timon?” Harry suggests and it’s his turn to receive all the weird looks.

“Where the bloody hell did Timon come from?” Andy says.

“Like Timon and Pumba from the Lion King,” he answers. I never really understood how Harry connected things.

“BUDDY!” Niall yells out loud.

“Too common,” Zayn argues.

“Google!” Harry then goes and we stare at him.

“Actually ‘Google’ sounds quite cute,” Eleanor says.

“True,” Louis agrees but I had a feeling it was just because Eleanor said it was.

“It does have a ring to it,” I put in and everyone nods so ‘Google’ it was.

The rest of the group had already gotten burgers for us before we arrived so I started biting into mine hungrily. Shopping always left me starving. It was like an automatic response my body had after shopping.

“Wait, since Zayn was with you, only me, Niall, and Lou didn’t know about the dog?” Liam demands.

“Actually mate,” Niall starts, placing a hand on Liam’s shoulder. “I already knew since last night when Harry gave Erin he dog.”

“So the dog’s Erin’s?” Liam asks.

“Technically yes but it’s kind of like ours? As in all of us,” I answer. I wasn’t sure how to explain it. I knew Harry meant it for me but then we also felt like the whole group should own it as well.

“Harry gave Erin the dog?” Louis asks and suddenly everyone grows quiet. There was just a certain tone to his voice.

“Since when did you give DOGS to girls?” Louis goes on, directing it to Harry who looked like he had a comeback but Niall interrupts him.

“What is your problem with Harry giving Erin a dog? Or Harry doing anything actually?” Niall goes and I shoot him a look to back off Louis. I know that Louis had his issues with Harry (and me) but I didn’t want to wreck Louis’ good mood.

“It just doesn’t seem like him,” Louis curtly replies.

“That’s because something’s changed with him, yeah?” Niall shoots back.

“Guys not now, we’re at a public place,” Liam warns but it seems that neither Niall nor Louis hear him.

“I can’t be the same person you think I was Louis!” Harry defends himself. Apparently Harry didn’t hear either.

“Could we please stop this?” I ask exasperatedly, wanting to burry my face in my hands.

“Leave if you want,” Louis shoots at me and Eleanor gives Louis a look.

“Stop taking it out on Erin!” Niall says and I honestly wanted to say: no let him. Louis was hurting. And even if everyone kept telling me not to believe it was my fault, I still wanted him to have an outlet. The only way he could keep his head in was to take it out on me. And if that was the only way I could help him then so be it. But at the same time I didn’t want to tell Niall off directly. He was looking out for me. It was all just complicated.

“Then who else am I supposed to take it out on?!” Louis rages.

“Guys, not now!” Zayn hisses as a group of 4 girls approach us.

“Hi…,” one girl hesitantly starts.

“Hey girls,” Liam says to them with a kind smile perched on his lips.

“Hey Lou, you okay? You look quite off,” another girl comments and Louis sighs.

“Tired is all,” he mumbles then stands up.

“I love you and Eleanor! But I love Larry Stylinson too. No offense Eleanor,” another girl pipes in with a friendly tone and Eleanor smiles warmly at the girl.

“Yeah. Those were the good days,” Louis grumbles then walks off.

“Where is Louis going?” the third girl asks.

“He’s just having a rough day,” Andy replies with a wink.
At that moment, I saw the pattern in my life. Up, down, up, down. There wasn’t a consistent happy time. It was always from peak to peak. Nothing in between and nothing ever the same for a long time.

I push the lobby door of the hotel open and walk inside with the leash of Google in my hands. I had volunteered to take out Google for a walk on my own, wanting to clear my head and calm myself. Luckily the hotel allowed pets inside.

I walk across the vast and classy lobby then go over to the side where the elevators were. The time was about 10 in the evening already and there weren’t much people around which was good. Going around on tour with large crowds cornering you all the time made you appreciate those times it was just you.

“Erin!” I hear and I turn around to see Harry standing up from a couch in a small part of the area where guests could relax.

“Oh hey, did you wait up for me?” I ask him as he comes closer.

“Yeah I was worried,” he replies, bending down to give Google a pat then straightens up again, brushing his curls out of his face. He’d changed out of his shorts and shirt from earlier and was now wearing gray sweats with a loose dark blue top, the sleeves folded up a bit, emphasizing his strong arms.

“Why would you be worried? I’m fine,” I say. Or rather wanted to be. But he knew me too well and pulled me into his arms as I burry my face in the nook of his neck, his smell engulfing me.

“Louis is just being Louis,” he says in my ear and pulls away a bit but keeps his arms around my hips.

“And Louis hates me,” I reply. I know Eleanor said that I should just give him time but I was pretty convinced he hated me now.

“He’ll come around,” Harry tries to convince me but he knows it was useless.

“Hey you two,” we hear Paul call our attention and we jump apart, startled by his voice.

“H-hi Paul,” I say with a bashful smile.

“Get upstairs to Liam’s room, we’re having an urgent meeting,” he tells us, looking totally unfazed by what we were doing.

“What’s up?” Harry says, sounding calmer than I did.

“Louis’ missing,” he replies, his eyes brows furrowed, his features serious.

“Maybe he just wondered off or something,” I say. It can’t be true. Louis gone? It can’t be.

“He wouldn’t have texted me saying ‘I’m done.’ If he simply wondered off,” Paul tells me and both Harry and I freeze in our places.

Louis was really…GONE?!
