The weird Scottish thief

Mercedes' pov
I ran through the old streets keeping an eye out for the police so that I don't get caught but I also was looking for a certain building. Then after a while I see the old run down building that in forced to call home

"MOM I'M HOME!!!" I yelled when I opened the door I hear footsteps from upstairs then after a while they came downstairs. I look and see my mom at the stairs then she goes into a coughing fit I frowned at that. I dug around in my pockets and give her a small bag of coins she looks at it

"Where did you get the money?" She asked cause even though we're poor she doesn't think stealing is an option

"I've just been saving up" I say walking her over to her small coat that she's had for a while I believe

"I can't tak-" she started but I shook my head and cut her off

"No it's ok take it I saved it up for you anyway" I say lieing but my mom doesn't need to know that. She puts the coat on

"Oh ok then sweetie" she says a small smile on her face as she leaves I sigh then I turn the radio on and instantly hear one of the know-it-alls on the channel talking

"Yes the Declaration of Independence is extremely expensive and priceless but it's extremely hard heavily guarded and would be impossible to steal" a female voice says wait priceless!! That's perfect!! So I wait then after about 10 minutes mom came back with a brown bag

"Hey mom I just wanted to tell you that me and a bunch of my friends are going to America for business I'll be sure to send you money so you can get medical care as soon as I get some money" I say she looks at me

"Are you sure I mean I'll support you of course but are you sure?" She asked me and even though I didn't want to leave her this is something I had to do to help her

"Yes as much as I want to stay home you need medicine"i say she smiled sadly and walked over to me and kissed the top of my head gently then we hugged and I quickly left before I started to cry in front of her as I was walking towards the airport I saw one of my.........friends well hes kind of my friend but not really close enough to be a friend

"Oi Mercedes" he calls out I stop and he runs over to me I smile

"Yeah?" I ask fixing the hoodie sleeves

"Where ye going lass?" He asked me I thought about telling him to watch my mother but I couldn't that would risk her safety cause no-one knows my personal life and I don't want anyone to know

"I'm going to America to find work" I say happily hoping he'll drop it he nods and and laughs after wishing me luck before leaving to go his own way

'Don't worry mom' I thought before running off towards the airport
