"Jen?"
It was Emma this time.
"What.. were you talking about?" I swear I will pay a million for the floor to swallow me.
Both of them are looking at me.
Kate has a questioning look and Emma, she seems.. amused?
Is she enjoying this?
"I was just telling Emma that whenever you're coming over to my house, you cook for me as well and... I would like that to happen again."
Why would you she say that? I am internally screaming at her.
I looked at Kate, feeling proud of what she just said, is she trying to make Emma jealous?
It's crazy to think that, I know.
But when I looked at Emma, her eyes were looking at me sharply.
She's not jealous, is she?
Again, both of them are looking at me.
Now, Kate was waiting for me to answer her and Emma, I was kind of scared of how she was looking at me now.
I will add another million for the floor to seriously swallow me this time.
"Well.."
Or should I give Kate those millions to stop talking?
"O-Of course, I guess. W-When I have the t-time." Stutter much?
I looked at Emma, big mistake by the way.
Her eyes were like on fire glaring at me and when I looked at Kate, she was smiling so dearly, like she had won a battle.
But what am I supposed to say? No? In her face?
I can't. I'm not that cruel.
Though I'm a bit confused as to why Emma was reacting like that, like a jealous girlfriend and I was the cheater one. When clearly she told me that she can't do "us" right now.
Our dinner became longer than I expected.
it was mostly Kate and Emma who were talking though they included me sometimes.
And from time to time I am stealing glances at Emma, she wasn't looking at me since I told Kate that I might go to her place and cook for her too like in the old times.
I think she's mad at me.
My face fell on the table. I finished my food already and just waiting for them to finish too.
Can Kate stop talking?
I looked at Kate, her face held enthusiasm while she was talking to Emma. Mostly about us, our time together as best friends.
And I can tell from Emma's face that she was faking her smile and laugh throughout the conversation.
I smiled at that, discreetly though, I don't want them to see me smiling and have them interrogate me as to why am I smiling alone.
I stood up in my seat, I could not take it anymore, somebody needed to call it a night.
"Excuse me, it's getting late and there's school tomorrow."
Kate who's still very hyper got back to her senses and looked at the time.
"Oh yeah, sorry, I have stayed longer than I expected."
"C'mon, it's nothing. I'm glad to have you here." It was Emma, and there was that fake smile again.
I know it was fake, I might not know her that long but we spent a lot of good times together for me to know if she was genuinely happy or not.
I continued to gather the plates, ignoring both of them. I don't want to seem to hurry in getting rid of Kate, but she really needs to go now. And it's really getting late.
I finished fixing the table in no time.
We were all in the door ready to bid goodbye to Kate. At last.
"Thanks again, Emma." Kate hugged Emma briefly and I felt a small pinch in my chest seeing that, especially when Emma hugged her back.
"And you.." Kate turns at me. "I'm gonna hold on to what you said."
She hugged me longer and tightly, and to my surprise, she kissed me at the corner of my lips.
"See you tomorrow?" Kate pulled herself gently away from me as I stood there saying nothing.
My eyes automatically searched for Emma but she was nowhere in sight. Where did she go?
I held Kate's shoulders when she tried to do it again and pushed her a little bit harshly, taken aback by what I did, Kate looked at me with her sad eye.
"Stop it, Kate, whatever you're doing." I tried to lower my voice as I said it firmly.
My eyes found Emma busied herself in the kitchen, once sure Emma did not witness it, my eyes darted back at Kate's.
She looks scared, though I never intended it for her to be, maybe it's a good thing that she knows I'm not gonna play whatever game she wanted to play.
I held Kate's arm and led her outside.
"You have to go." I made sure my voice was firm and held no sign of emotions.
"But-"
"Goodnight, Kate." It's rude and harsh to close the door on her face but I am upset, very upset.
I turned around to see Emma looking at me.
"That's harsh, you know." There's her poker face again.
"Yeah, about that, Em-"
"It's getting late, isn't it, Jenny?" Emma cut me off and there was sarcasm in her voice. I'm just not sure if it's good or bad.
"I just said that so she'll leave. And, can you not call me Jenny?" It's irritating, I wanted to add.
"Why? Because she's the only one who can call you that?" Her hands are on her waist now and the features in her face became hard.
"Emma, Are you jealous?"
