Starbucks Winter Friday Nights and Deep Conversations - Luke Hemmings

I walked into Starbucks with red eyes since I has just been crying, I pulled my knit beanie further down over my loose brunette wavy curls, pulled the selves of my jumper and readjusted my bag on my shoulder. I love winter, which is ironic, since my name is Winter, but I go by Kenny. I love everything about it, onesies, jumpers, beanies, comfy clothing, Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes, curled by the fire, it just gets me all excited.

I grabbed my purse out of my bag and walked over to the counter, order my usual winter pumpkin spice latte, but I was surprised to find a new guy behind the counter. He was super tall, basically a human giraffe, blonde hair perfectly shaped into a quiff, mesmerising, piercing blue eyes, cleared than the ocean and a simple black lip ring on the right side of his lips. Simple, but effective.

He smiled at me and I smiled back slightly.

"Hi, I'm Luke, can I take you order please?" He asked me still smiling.

"Hey, can I have a pumpkin spice latté and a ginger-nut cookie please," I weakly smiled at him.

"Sure, can I take your name please love?" He looked up at me, ocean blue eyes brightly gazing at me.

"Kenny." I smiled weakly at him again and he wrote it down. He seemed to ether have spelt my name so wrong, or just wrote a special message, since it looked like he added about 6 extra letters.

"Your drink will be ready for you in a minute beautiful," he smiled at me again before turning around to make it.

I walked over to the counter to wait for my drink and cookie, and soon it was finished, I smiled at him, picking both up and took them over to the self serve table, where the sugar, milk and nutmeg dust was.

I added nutmeg, milk and sugar and then sat down at the table in the back corner where I usually sat. I then looked at my cup to see how he had actually spelt my name and it said

'Cheer up beautiful' and had a heart next to it.

I smiled over at Luke who was now standing at the table next to me, picking up empty cups and plates and he smiled back.

"Why are you in here, it's a Friday night!" He questioned in an Australian accent, while wiping down the table next to me.

"Well I would actually rather sit in the corner of my favourite coffee shop on a Friday night, than going to a wild party with random strangers, and I would rather spend all night telling secrets and having cute conversations, than going out and getting shit-faced.' I replied quietly.

"Have you been crying?" He asked me, putting the cups and plates into the tray and turning around to me.

"Um... Yeah..." I croaked out.

"Why is such a pretty girl like you crying on a Friday night in the back of her local Starbucks?" He asked looking confused.

"Long story..." I simply replied.

"I have time, in case you haven't noticed, I have time, the shop is completely empty and you are probably the only person to come in here this time on a Friday night." He raised an eyebrow.

I giggled at his response and then decided I might as well talk to him and we could keep each other company.

"My boyfriend dumped me, because I found out he was cheating on me and he said that I'm being too clingy and possessive of him. I mean sorry for wanting my own boyfriend, and not wanting to share, jeez. Anyway, yeah that's basically what happened..." I trailed off. I pulled my sleeve up to scratch my arm since it was itchy.

I noticed Luke staring intently at me, "wait... He didn't... Please no..." He trailed off before he grabbed my left arm and pulled my sleeve up and inspected the finger shaped bruises along my forearm.

"He did this, didn't he..." Luke whispered.

"Yeah..." I whispered back.

Luke didn't say anything back, and I didn't speak again, he just pulled me into a hug, and we stayed that way for about 3 minutes.

"Don't worry about him, I will become your best friend/future lover and I will make sure to treat you right, okay, I will protect you and make sure he doesn't come any where near you ever again." He promised you, linking our little fingers into a locked promise.
